[0:29] <cheasee> "Our priority for raspbian wheezy is to stay as close to debian wheezy as reasonablly possible and avoid breaking stuff that works. ... So sorry but you will have to wait for raspbian jessie." - ok, i heard debian wheezy will be stable around next week, so raspbian jessie will come around the same time?
[0:31] <PhotoJim> Hard to say.
[0:31] <PhotoJim> I don't see anything in what you posted there that implies any timetable for Raspbian Jessie.
[0:34] <cheasee> sure hard to say, just asking into the blue :) i would wait few weeks for the update but i wouldnt want to wait ages, then i rather would go through manualy compile/install it
[0:38] <plugwash> Right now I can't say much about how long it will take to get raspbian jessie opened and into a stable state
[0:38] <cheasee> other question, how do you watch hd content on the rpi without lags?
[0:42] <cheasee> ok well then ill try the manual way and am happy when jessie is out and i only need to upgrade :) thanks for the information

[6:45] <RJ45> I know that in-general, for any Linux-based or Linux-like OS, the best filesystem to use is EXT3 / EXT4, but I was wondering if it where different for the Raspberry Pi?, what filesystem is best to extract the .IMG to?
[6:47] <RJ45> ...no pressure, but I could use with a fast answer
[6:49] * XenGi_ (~XenGi@xengi.de) Quit (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
[6:51] * XenGi (~XenGi@xengi.de) has joined #raspbian
[6:51] <- *XenGi* Sry I'm currently not present but you can leave me a message and I will probably respond to it.
[6:53] <RJ45> ...you know what, I'm just going to do it EXT4 and hope the Rapberry Pi likes it when I can use it in a few days.
[6:55] <RJ45> ...from what I've heard, although EXT4 is very bad if you experience abrupt power outages (like the way one has-to turn off a RasPi), it is however one of the fastest and most efficient filesystems out there, so I'll use it for speed, and just be careful when I power down.
[6:57] <taza> You'd want Ext3 and to wait a bit more
[6:57] <taza> Thing is, you don't want to extract the .img anyway
[6:58] <taza> There's a fundamental misunderstanding here for you
[6:58] <taza> The boot partition of the RPi needs to be FAT32 - usually 64mb or so for Raspbian.
[6:59] <taza> The image files basically anywhere are something you dd to the SD card and replace it's partition table. Completely wiping it and installing a fresh filesystem, which raspi-config on the first boot (for most images) resizes to the size of the card.

[7:07] * jyp (~jyp@58.149.168.130) has joined #raspbian
[7:10] <RJ45> taza: I'm confused, should I partition it EXT3 and then dd the .img?
[7:11] <taza> You don't need to partition it anything
[7:11] <taza> Insert a SD card you don't mind about losing everything on, dd the image over the raw partition, done
[7:12] <taza> The .img contains a partition table.
[7:12] <RJ45> okay I guess :-/
[7:13] <RJ45> does the RasPi automatically enable LBA too?

[7:15] <RJ45> taza: hey, would a nice user friendly program like Ubuntu IMG Writer do as good a job as dd?
[7:16] <taza> Never used it
[7:16] <RJ45> ya see, dd scares me
[7:17] <RJ45> I don't wanna fuck up and lose everything I has! x.x
[7:21] <taza> But yeah, I have no clue how the Ubuntu IMG Writer would do
[7:23] <taza> Possibly very well.
[7:33] <RJ45> 'aight, it's in action, just gotta wait for my Wireless Keyboard/Mouse of questionable built quality to arrive, then I can have some fun with this RasPi! :D

[10:57] <plugwash> hi
[10:58] <debdeb> i am searching a very good microSD-card for the raspi (with SD->microSD). prize < 50 eur. class 10 or UHS-I (if raspberry can use it), 32GB. which should i use?
[10:59] <debdeb> may you link me to any good actually hardware-tests for microSD-cards?

[11:03] <debdeb> the next what i search is something like a USV for the raspberry
[11:04] <debdeb> i thougt about a mobile-tank like this one: https://www.amazon.de/10-000mAh-Powerbank-Ladeger%C3%A4t-Smartphone-Handy-Anschl%C3%BCsse/dp/B0067XRL56/
[11:05] <debdeb> nice for that prize... but after i thouhgt about it... it isnt that good anymore...
[11:05] <debdeb> because the raspi wouldnt know, when the energy is low
[11:06] <debdeb> am i right in this?
[11:06] <debdeb> or dows the raspi somehow "know" how much energy is left in the battery?
[11:06] * bertrik (~quassel@rockbox/developer/bertrik) Quit (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)
[11:07] <debdeb> i mean: like a laptop knows how much energy is left in the battery
[11:09] <debdeb> or is there any real usv (for the prize of ca. 50 eur) with a usb-connection to the usv which tells the raspi the energy-level?
[11:23] <exoon> I flashed raspbian for the first time. I can use ssh but I get no output on hdmi. Is tthis the default state?
[11:27] <plugwash> did you connect the HDMI before powering on? iirc the Pi will by default only enable the HDMI if it detects a device on the other end
[11:29] <exoon> plugwash, I try again. I am not sure if the TV was turned on.

[11:38] <CosmicDuck> Hi, I have a problem with bash completition by using set -u. I found an older problem with bash 3 here: http://www.mail-archive.com/bash-completion-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org/msg02896.html
[11:38] <CosmicDuck> The problem is not shown on my wheezy i386 system. Any idea why on raspbian the problem occurs but not on i386?
[11:38] <CosmicDuck> I think it's an raspbian related bug so I want to open an bug report at raspian instead of wheeze, isn't it?
[11:40] <CosmicDuck> Another problem I've found is I use screen for my terminal sharing. But ctrl-a will not work with them. Any hint what's could be wrong? On i386 the problem doesn't occur, too.
[11:41] <plugwash> My best advice is to try debian wheezy armel on your Pi and if the bug is reproducable there report it to debian
[11:42] <plugwash> you can report the bug in the raspbian bugtracker but it's unlikely to acheive much unless you've already worked out what is causing it and can propose a fix :/
[11:42] <CosmicDuck> Ok, good idea. I've an second sdcard which i can flash with armel
[11:43] <debdeb> oh btw... is there something like emdebian for raspi?
[11:43] <CosmicDuck> possible both is only an configuration problem....missing package or so
[11:44] <debdeb> i mean a very cut-down raspbian?
[11:44] <CosmicDuck> another question, It is possible to use my rasberry to connect to jtag interface on other devices whithout using special hadrwas (cable)
[11:44] <CosmicDuck> ?

[12:09] <CosmicDuck> @plugwash: I've found the problem in /etc/bash_completion.d/desktop-file-validate from desktop-file-utils. There is a variable $filenames. If no variable exits in my bash session the completion fails with an error that variable filenames does not allready set :-(
[12:14] <CosmicDuck> but what I not understand if $have is not set in my console which must set before $filename will parsed. hm..
