[0:00] <gnarface> lemme know if you find a screen for that price at a better resolution though
[0:00] <gnarface> the last one i found decent was 134$ though it also was a touchscreen
[0:01] <gnarface> but it was out of stock before i discovered it
[0:01] <gnarface> the site offered to take a pre-order for when they came back in stock
[0:01] <gnarface> which luckily i didn't do, because the site now says they're discontinued
[0:10] <otyugh> gosh
[0:10] <otyugh> because at 134$ it's quite easy to get a 22" for a few more dollar... And then it's not portable anymore.
[0:18] <otyugh> what I hate about theses 320x240, it's the fact I can't find one that is not touchscreen. God. What silly idea to touchscreen something that teeny ? _
[0:19] <otyugh> (http://www.adafruit.com/category/105_160)
[0:21] * tfox (~tfox@27.122.12.75) has joined #raspbian
[0:23] <gnarface> generally, i agree, but i think they are primarily manufactured for devices that don't have keyboards/network interfaces (like ad-hoc car stereo systems)
[0:24] <gnarface> in the 300$ and up range there is plenty of stuff for on-site monitoring of HD digital cinema cameras,
[0:24] <gnarface> some of those are even visible in daylight and have built-in battery packs/usb hubs
[0:24] <gnarface> but at that type of price it sortof ruins the point of having a pi
[0:25] <gnarface> since for the same price you could get a chromebook or something, with more horsepower AND a better screen
[0:26] <gnarface> i think if you wanted your pi to be a mp3 player running a custom app based on the enlightenment libraries instead of a window manager though, a 320x240 touchscreen might be ideal though
[0:30] <otyugh> mhm
[0:31] * tfox (~tfox@27.122.12.75) Quit (Quit: tfox)
[0:31] <otyugh> I'm the sort of guy that don't use GUI's theses times. Maybe there is displays made for text only purpose that are lower in price ?

[1:01] <dougl> what is the meaning of life?
[1:01] <plugwash> 42
[1:02] <gnarface> otyugh: i think if you were clever you could wire a bunch of those 2-line text-only lcd displays on that page you linked into a single 40x80 terminal ... it'd be worth serious geek points but its above my level of expertise
[1:02] <gnarface> er, 80x40, whichever it is

[1:18] <gnarface> heh
[1:18] <gnarface> which phone is that?
[1:18] <shiftplusone> S2
[1:19] <shiftplusone> but it's armv7, so I guess standard debian armhf is the way to go
[1:19] <shiftplusone> (it's all in a chroot, 'course)
[1:19] <gnarface> ah, cheating
[1:19] <shiftplusone> =(
[1:21] <shiftplusone> there's an android x server available, so no need for vnc nonsense anymore as well =)

[2:35] <raidensnake> configure: WARNING: GL/glut.h: accepted by the compiler, rejected by the preprocessor!
[2:35] <raidensnake> configure: WARNING: GL/glut.h: proceeding with the compiler's result
[2:35] <raidensnake> does anyone know what this is about?
[2:36] <gnarface> something to do with GLES maybe?
[2:36] <gnarface> or maybe its just the wrong one
[2:37] <raidensnake> well that's the thing. I'm using a glutes library that works the same way as lunixbochs's GL and GLU wrappers
[2:37] <raidensnake> it knows the files are there
[2:39] <gnarface> maybe its just an autoconf bug?
[2:39] <gnarface> i don't know i guess
[2:39] * MobGod (~mobgod@unaffiliated/mobgod) Quit (Quit: Leaving...)
[2:39] <gnarface> what i do know is that the pi can't run real opengl
[2:39] <raidensnake> In file included from conftest.c:24:0:
[2:39] <raidensnake> #include <GLES/gl.h>
[2:39] <raidensnake> ^
[2:39] <raidensnake> compilation terminated.
[2:39] <gnarface> it can only run the mobile version (gles 2)
[2:39] * MobGod (~mobgod@unaffiliated/mobgod) has joined #raspbian
[2:39] <gnarface> yea
[2:40] <gnarface> so you're missing the GLES headers apparently, for starters
[2:40] <raidensnake> I linked it from the opt/vc/include
[2:40] <gnarface> hmm. paste the whole output?
[2:40] <gnarface> (in pastebin)
[2:41] * mdorenka (~mdorenka@unaffiliated/mdorenka) Quit (Read error: Operation timed out)

[2:43] <raidensnake> the /usr/include/GLES is a symlink from /opt/vc/include/GLES
[2:43] <raidensnake> http://pastebin.com/WevxXErg
[2:43] <raidensnake> that's the error with the config
[2:44] <raidensnake> well more of a warning than an error
[2:44] <gnarface> come on dude
[2:44] <gnarface> /usr/include/GL/glut.h:90:21: fatal error: /usr/include/GLES/gl.h: Too many levels of symbolic links
[2:44] <gnarface> you don't see anything on there that might be a hint that it doesn't like your symbolic link???
[2:44] <raidensnake> all i did was this
[2:44] <gnarface> dude
[2:45] <gnarface> just try copying the directory over first
[2:45] <gnarface> if that works, figure out where the rest of the symbolic links are that its complaining about
[2:46] <gnarface> chances are the parent directory or something in that directory was already symbolic links
[2:46] <gnarface> i don't think one level is "too many levels"
[2:46] <gnarface> in fact i thought that error implies you created a loop
[2:46] <raidensnake> I didn't though
[2:47] <gnarface> well the error suggests there are at least more symbolic links in there you didn't account for
[2:47] <gnarface> i'd take it at face value and try it without the symbolic links first
[2:47] <gnarface> you know if you do "ls -l --color -F" it makes their presence all quite obvious, right?
[2:48] * mdorenka (~mdorenka@unaffiliated/mdorenka) has joined #raspbian
[2:49] <raidensnake> yeah
[2:49] <gnarface> my guess is that something in the chain of parent directories you symlinked in, or the children of the directory you symlinked to, was already a symlinks and you didn't notice
[2:50] <raidensnake> I used this source
[2:50] <raidensnake> https://github.com/damiannz/glutes
[2:50] <gnarface> in theory the build process could be complicating the matter by creating its own symlinks in a build directory somewhere
[2:50] <gnarface> though that seems weird, i have no idea what that is that you're building
[2:50] <gnarface> never heard of it
[2:51] <raidensnake> that glutes works like this one http://github.com/lunixbochs/glshim
[2:52] <raidensnake> you know how it converts standard open gl to gles
[2:53] <gnarface> did you try it without the symlink yet?
[2:53] <raidensnake> yeah. just clearing up missing file errors
[2:53] <gnarface> also, in theory i think you can just add the compiler flag instead to point to it like this: -I/opt/vc/include/GLES
[2:54] <gnarface> it might be cleaner than symlinks OR copying files around
[2:54] <raidensnake> I did try the -I which gave me the problem initially
[2:54] <gnarface> well are the files in there also symlinks?
[2:55] <raidensnake> no
[2:55] <gnarface> well, i got nothing
[2:55] <gnarface> has this been reported to be buildable on raspbian? could be a bug
[2:56] <raidensnake> aparently so with a few other files
[2:56] <raidensnake> even on other distro's it's mentioned
[2:56] <raidensnake> something to do with autoconf
[2:56] <raidensnake> is what's mentioned
[2:59] <raidensnake> bingo
[2:59] <raidensnake> copying the files fixed it
[3:00] <raidensnake> sweet! got GL GLU and GLUT wrappers working
[3:00] * roboguy_ (~roboguy_@207.59.124.24.cm.sunflower.com) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[3:00] <gnarface> so, it doesn't like symlinks
[3:01] <gnarface> could be an autoconf bug
[3:01] <gnarface> but i don't really know
[3:01] <gnarface> i'd have thought -I would have worked
[3:01] * Scriven (~nevirsc@S01060026f3c70320.vc.shawcable.net) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[3:02] <raidensnake> well in any case if any of those libraries are called it just redirects to the hardware itself
[3:02] <raidensnake> the libraries aren't the open GL/GLU/GLUT
[3:03] <raidensnake> just interpreters for GLES/GLES2/EGL ect...
[3:04] <raidensnake> it's clever how now any standard opengl program thinks it's what it needs when in fact it's saying I'll do this instead.
[3:05] <trickyhero> is raspbian going to switch to LXDE-qt, just wondering

[3:08] <gnarface> trickyhero: around here we pick our own window managers
[3:08] <trickyhero> so just the official build comes with lxde
[3:09] <trickyhero> er not offical persay but from raspberrypi.org
[3:09] <raidensnake> mate is preet fast considering
[3:09] <raidensnake> pretty
[3:10] <raidensnake> it's smaller than lxde
[3:11] <gnarface> trickyhero: yes, that is correct. if you are not using one of their pre-built installers you pick your window manager (explicitly or implicitly, or none at all) at install time, or you can change it later too, in fact you can have more than one installed at once in many cases

[3:12] <trickyhero> that's cool, I just got a working power supply for my pi so I'm just messing around with the diffrent OS's right now :)
[3:12] <raidensnake> I use a clean version of raspbian using hifi's netinstall
[3:14] <trickyhero> oh nice that seems pretty minimal
[3:15] <raidensnake> uses less than 1GB of space and only takes me like 10 mins to install
[3:15] <raidensnake> it's mostly automated
[3:16] <trickyhero> right now I have noobs installing pidora, arch and riscos, I already tried raspbian :)
[3:19] <raidensnake> riscos is from years ago originally

[19:46] <hid3> I have an issue with the mpd player. Each time I force it to start playing the music, is starts to blast really loud. I need to do volume down by one percent, it silences much, and then I can increase it back with no negative effects. This repeats each time after i stop mpd playing. Any clues what's the issue?
[19:47] <hid3> e.g. the workaround would be: `mpc play && mpc volume 77 && sleep 1 && mpc volume 78`
