[0:23] * OJ_did_it (adc0aa4e@gateway/web/freenode/ip.173.192.170.78) has joined #raspbian
[0:26] <OJ_did_it> does raspbian (raspbmc specifically) not keep sshd_config in /etc/ssh? I can connect over ssh, but ssh doesn't show in /etc/init.d either
[0:30] * lupinedk is now known as Lupinedk
[0:31] <Pizzapie> Hello everyone, I have a problem with the Raspian image. I downloaded the official latest & stable release, SHA-1 sum was correct after download. Formatted the SDHC class 10 card (64GB) card as supposed with "SD formatter" and flashed the image with "win32disk image". Everything works fine so far.
[0:31] <Pizzapie> sudo apt-get update works as supposed
[0:31] * Milhouse (~Milhouse@xbmc/staff/milhouse) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[0:32] <Pizzapie> sudo apt-get upgrade always brings the same error: Unpacking replacement wolfram-engine ...
[0:32] <Pizzapie> dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/wolfram-engine_10.0.0+2014080602_armhf.deb (--unpack):
[0:32] <Pizzapie> cannot copy extracted data for './opt/Wolfram/WolframEngine/10.0/SystemFiles/FrontEnd/StyleSheets/Core.nb' to '/opt/Wolfram/WolframEngine/10.0/SystemFiles/FrontEnd/StyleSheets/Core.nb.dpkg-new': failed to write (No space left on device)
[0:32] <Pizzapie> dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)
[0:33] <Pizzapie> tried "sudo apt-get clean" & "sudo dpkg --configure -a" and "sudo apt-get -f install"... The problem is still exsists.
[0:34] * mythos (~mythos@unaffiliated/mythos) has left #raspbian
[0:36] <Pizzapie> I didn't wanna try some manual overwriting, because the OS is fresh out of the box. Does anybody have a simple idea? Thanks :)
[0:42] <plugwash> did you use the "expand rootfs" option in raspi-config?
[0:43] * Milhouse (~Milhouse@xbmc/staff/milhouse) has joined #raspbian
[0:47] <Pizzapie> yes, the "1 Expand Filesystem - Ensure that all of the SD card srota..."
[0:47] * YoY (~YoY@ltl56-2-88-169-169-201.fbx.proxad.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
[0:50] * YoY (~YoY@ltl56-2-88-169-169-201.fbx.proxad.net) has joined #raspbian
[0:56] <Pizzapie> @plugwash: It's working now. I expanded it again, reboot and now it's working. I don't really know why it's working now, but I'm very thankful for your advice. :)
[0:59] * YoY (~YoY@ltl56-2-88-169-169-201.fbx.proxad.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)

[1:34] <awi> hi
[1:35] <awi> anybody know how to get started on raspberry?? any good website reference for new learner?
[1:39] <Getty> its a computer ;)
[1:39] <Getty> you are using one right now already, the raspberry is not that much different ;) you should know linux that could help ;)
[1:40] <Getty> and, of course, the always to mention statement: there is no documentation for "something" you should know before what you want achieve
[1:40] <Getty> to achieve
[1:43] * Beezie (b93bd597@gateway/web/cgi-irc/kiwiirc.com/ip.185.59.213.151) Quit (Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client)
[1:49] <awi> tq getty. i have the old version type B from a friend but don't know how to start or to program.
[1:49] * Pizzapie (~pizzapie@77-57-92-111.dclient.hispeed.ch) Quit (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
[1:49] * darkbasic_ (~quassel@niko.linuxsystems.it) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[1:50] <Getty> awi: its a computer, again, you take the SD card image put it on the SD card, you put it in, and its starts a linux
[1:50] <Getty> awi: its 100% identical to having a real computer with linux
[1:50] * darkbasic (~quassel@niko.linuxsystems.it) has joined #raspbian
[1:50] <Getty> awi: if you dont know linux you should learn linux first (like its literally irrelevant that you have a raspberry, the linux is the same)
[1:51] * Pizzapie (~pizzapie@77-57-92-111.dclient.hispeed.ch) has joined #raspbian
[1:51] <Getty> awi: raspberry linux documentations are mostly pretty straightforward for specific targets, there is no need for a general linux documentation specific for raspberry pi
[1:51] <Getty> awi: what you wanna do with it?
[1:55] <Getty> if you need to learn linux, you could actually avoid the raspberry for first and use a virtual machine, to get into the feeling (with a higher speed for everything)
[1:55] <Getty> raspberry pi can be very slow, so if you dont know what you do, you waste a lot of time waiting for it to get done with whatever you try out
[1:55] <Getty> i never understood that why people just say "hey i have a raspberry, what now?", why they got it in the first place? ;)
[1:56] <awi> any website address for this virtual machine?
[1:56] <Getty> http://www.thoughtpolice.co.uk/vmware/
[1:56] <Getty> you might want this one: http://www.thoughtpolice.co.uk/vmware/#debian7.0
[1:57] <Getty> (raspbian == debian, if you didnt knew yet)
[1:57] <awi> cool. tqvm
[2:04] * awi (~awi@175.143.83.213) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[2:06] <OJ_did_it> does raspbian (raspbmc specifically) not keep sshd_config in /etc/ssh? cause I don't have one in there by default, ssh works.
[2:06] <OJ_did_it> also, I can't restart the ssh service because it isn't found...
[2:09] <Getty> so i bet if you restart your system then the sshd doesnt work ;)
[2:10] <OJ_did_it> it does though
[2:10] <OJ_did_it> and I can't restart it. I think something with CEC. I have to shut it down and physically unplug it, then plug it back on
[2:10] <OJ_did_it> *in
[2:11] <OJ_did_it> if I try to reboot it hangs

[13:10] <Mikaela> ColdKeyboard: You might want to change your /etc/fstab, use UUID instead of specifying /dev/sda5
[13:11] <Mikaela> UUID=2A2C535742C3A3D4 /media/Mikaelan ntfs defaults,rw 0 0
[13:11] <Mikaela> is my entry. You can get UUID by running "blkid"

[13:12] <Mikaela> ColdKeyboard: Actually, I am now experiencing that same issue as the system doesn't detect my HDD. Interesting.
[13:12] <ColdKeyboard> I would change that but I can't detect my external USB HDD... :\

[13:13] <Mikaela> I must probably get out of bed and check if the HDD is even connected.

[13:15] <Mikaela> I diagnosed my issue: there are no USB cables connected to my Pi.
[13:15] <ColdKeyboard> Last time I had to power off pi and then power it back on but It get's annoying when you have to do it every other day... I placed my pi behind the TV stand where it is out of sight but it's also hard to reach... ;\
[13:16] <Mikaela> It seems that my USB HUB was disconnected. Does your HDD have own power source or does it take power from the USB port? If it takes power from USB port, you might want to get USB hub which can power it.
[13:17] <Mikaela> /dev/sda1: UUID="2A2C535742C3A3D4" TYPE="ntfs"
[13:17] <Mikaela> now it works.
[13:17] <ColdKeyboard> It has it's own power source
[13:17] <ColdKeyboard> It's in external case for 3.5" HDD with it's own power source :)
[13:17] <Mikaela> Is it connected? Does it work with any other system?
[13:18] <Mikaela> I don't have any other suggestions, but someone else might.

[13:19] <ColdKeyboard> It worked with my laptop when I connected it to transfer some files to it
[13:20] <ColdKeyboard> FUnny thing is that lsusb reports the USB HDD
[13:21] <Mikaela> Can you see it with "blkid"?
[13:21] <Mikaela> It should appear in "blkid" even when unmounted or at least mine seems to do that.
[13:21] <ColdKeyboard> Now it seems to started working... but I didn't do anything :S
[13:22] <ColdKeyboard> Funny as hell and annoying... :\
[13:23] <ColdKeyboard> I'll change fstab to mount it by uid while it's working... :)
[13:24] <ColdKeyboard> Thank you for your help! :)
[13:25] <Mikaela> You're welcome :)
[13:25] <Mikaela> The UUID should be written somewhere on the partition table on the device and it should be unique and same on all devices where you plug it.

[18:35] <Leonid> ye that's what i was going to do :) thanks. I have a RPi and have a question - can i install on arm-linux any software aslike on pc-version or only some special arm-versions of them?

[18:37] * meti_ (~meti@unaffiliated/meti) has joined #raspbian
[18:37] <Eremiell> Leonid: unless it's platform independent (python, bash, ...), you need an armhf binary.
[18:38] <vagrantc> it needs to be built for arm, but there's lots of it already built for raspbian or other distros
[18:38] <Eremiell> Leonid: fonts should be platform independent.
[18:38] <Leonid> Emeriell: ok, and how about sources, can i build my own arm-binary with rpi from sources?
[18:38] <Eremiell> if it's not and you can obtain sources, you can compile it on your own.
[18:38] <vagrantc> can't speak to arch, this channel is about raspbian
[18:39] <Leonid> sorry vagrantc but im not talking about arch at all, mostly about linux and building sources.
[18:40] <Leonid> Emeriell, thank you. I'll try to find some any ways to get nice fonts

[18:40] <Eremiell> some are already in your repo, if you're on raspbian. installing others should be easy too.
[18:42] <Leonid> Emeriell: unfortunately not. I cant say anything bad about raspbian, it is great at all, but i have arch on my pc and went the same way on rpi :) thank all of you for help, bye
