[0:12] <spm_draget> Anyone using the current https://github.com/debian-pi/raspbian-ua-netinst 1.0.6 from 9th Jan?
[0:13] <spm_draget> I tried two different Pi's with three different SD cards in each: The installation runs and installs everything. But when it reboots, the PI brings up the test-color-screen as if there was no SD card. Does anyone have the same issue?

[9:57] <spm_draget> diederik: Excuse my lack of response. And yeah… I'll see if this helps. Funny tho… the kernel should load the initramfs after initalizing the framebuffer… I thought the rainbow-image is the test-output of the video core you mainly see if there is no sd card present at all.
[9:57] <spm_draget> Let's see if I can disect this a bit more.

[12:41] <spm_draget> diederik: That is what I just experienced… tried bootstrapping wiht 1.0.7-beta now and instead of wheezy, used jessie. Creating the initramfs failed with end of space
[12:41] <diederik> just checked back and there could be multiple reasons for Hallo32's failures. Bad SD card (still very plausable) and it looks like he also ran into issue 199/201
[12:42] <spm_draget> I enlarged it to 64M - checking the logfile at the moment if this had worked
[12:42] <diederik> spm_draget: so 64M wasn't enough either?

[13:07] <spm_draget> diederik: If the default jessi system take 41mb (plus some headroom of 15-29MB for copying files around), increasing to 128mb is a bit much, or? With a kernel image around 3-4mb I'd say with something like 80MB or 96MB you still have room enough.

[13:11] <spm_draget> And I always thought the kernel would show the framebuffer *before* executing anything from the initramfs. Why does the videocore still show the test-image currently when the kernel actually loads without the initramfs…

[13:22] <diederik> that's what I use on my 3 Pi's and I used that to create those gists

[13:24] <spm_draget> I have a serial-2-usb, yes :P you get these 1/10th the price from china without the 'you can also use this for you pi!'-label :P
[13:25] <spm_draget> I'll find the pins myself and generate some logs… give me some time =)
[13:25] <diederik> great :)
[13:25] <diederik> (and lol)
[13:26] <ShorTie> spm_draget, if you got a bigger sdcard play with 'rootsize' and i believe you will find where you need atleast 1.2gig for the install to finish nicely
[13:26] <spm_draget> I assume you are the ua-netinst dev? Thanks so much… the foundations default image is stuffed with so much crap… I just *love* your 'dd - ethernet and power - wait - done' worklow =)

[13:29] <diederik> I am (and goranche). Thanks :)
[13:29] <spm_draget> ShorTie: My current jessie root is 364mb. So, a 512mb SD card should work without issues. But since I assumed my SD-card was the problem, I switched to a modern 16gb card quite early. (and figured, it was not the SD card. But I' still like to use my 512mb card later… this pi will only be ssh-proxy and samba)
[13:31] <diederik> I'd be interested to know whether it (still) works on a 512M card. The smallest I have is 8G
[13:32] <spm_draget> If we fix this issue, I'll tell you. Probaly I'll throw in nano, ntpd, tmux, htop, git, cron, unattended upgrades and samba… I doubt that this will increase the system size too much.
[13:32] <ShorTie> ya, you can image the bigger sdcard and put it onto a 512mb, but for the install to work properly you need 1.2gig or so
[13:33] <spm_draget> ShorTie: You mean the rootfs? It needs more (significatly more) space durining installation? Hm, interesting.
[13:33] <ShorTie> yes sir
[13:35] <diederik> ShorTie: why do you think it needs *that* much more room during install?
[13:35] <spm_draget> diederik: The final kernel for wheezy will be always the same, no matter if I use 1.0.6 or 1.0.7 installer, right? Then I'll dump the output for wheezy and jessie …
[13:35] <ShorTie> [07:38:51] <ShorTie> can't go by finished size, gotta leave enough room to download, unpack and then install
[13:36] <diederik> spm_draget: correct, unless you modify rcS (and build the installer afterwards)
[13:37] <diederik> see Mausy5043 and my comments on issue 199
[13:37] <diederik> I agree it needs more room then the final size, but your estimate is more then twice the final size

[23:39] <shiftplusone> and for the hell of it, ifconfig -a
[23:39] <ghostchilli> Uhh, alright. I'll give it a shot
[23:44] <ghostchilli> Currently, it has the wifi adapter I linked earlier, and another wireless adapter I've borrowed (which works). Here is the paste, http://pastebin.com/zu45jZfF
[23:45] <shiftplusone> ghostchilli, missing firmware
[23:46] <shiftplusone> rtlwifi/rtl8188eufw.bi

[23:46] <shiftplusone> "[ 1179.764738] r8188eu 1-1.2:1.0: Firmware rtlwifi/rtl8188eufw.bin not available"
[23:46] <shiftplusone> I'd install apt-file, run apt-file update, then apt-file search rtl8188eufw.bin
[23:47] <shiftplusone> and install the package it spits out
[23:47] <ghostchilli> Hmm, I'm still new to linux, not really sure how to do that
[23:48] <shiftplusone> run the following commands:
[23:48] <shiftplusone> sudo apt-get install apt-file
[23:48] <shiftplusone> sudo apt-file update
[23:48] <shiftplusone> apt-file search rtl8188eufw.bin
[23:48] <ghostchilli> Alright, on it now. Cheers.
[23:48] <shiftplusone> though before you're done, somebody will probably reply and tell you which package you actually need.
[23:49] <shiftplusone> but I think it's a good idea to learn how to find packages containing a certain file anyway.
[23:50] <ghostchilli> So apt-file is like a directory of files?
