[7:14] <sheerun> Hello! I'm trying to change cmdline.txt on my sd card, but it says the filesystem doesn't support persistence. How to switch it to read-write mode?
[7:14] <sheerun> I used dd command to copy .img to sd card
[7:14] <sheerun> I use OSX
[7:17] * otter768 (~otter768@cpe-67-11-53-3.satx.res.rr.com) has joined #raspbian
[7:18] <UsecAgo> if you copied an IMG into the sd, it should be mounted for you to handle it
[7:20] * darkbasic_ (~quassel@niko.linuxsystems.it) has joined #raspbian
[7:21] * darkbasic (~quassel@niko.linuxsystems.it) Quit (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
[7:22] <UsecAgo> sheerun, are you sure about what you did copy? (if not, dd back into a backup.img in your OSX and do a md5 or sh1 checksum comparation between that recovered img and the original img)
[7:22] * otter768 (~otter768@cpe-67-11-53-3.satx.res.rr.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 264 seconds)
[7:23] <sheerun> sudo dd bs=1M if=/Users/sheerun/Downloads/2015-05-05-raspbian-wheezy.img of=/dev/disk3
[7:23] * taza (~taza@unaffiliated/taza) has joined #raspbian
[7:23] <UsecAgo> sheerun, then extract the sd, inserti it back, look what /dev is being assigned to it and proceed to mount it
[7:24] <sheerun> it's mounted and all, but not writeable
[7:24] * darkbasic (~quassel@niko.linuxsystems.it) has joined #raspbian
[7:24] <UsecAgo> sheerun, https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/installation/installing-images/README.md
[7:25] <UsecAgo> ok, that is the way you mount it
[7:25] * darkbasic_ (~quassel@niko.linuxsystems.it) Quit (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
[7:26] <UsecAgo> who is the owner?
[7:26] <UsecAgo> do you have permissions?
[7:26] <UsecAgo> why do you use OSX? XD
[7:27] <UsecAgo> sorry ;)
[7:28] <UsecAgo> I have no clue how do SD get mounted in OSX... never used it
[7:28] * darkbasic (~quassel@niko.linuxsystems.it) Quit (Excess Flood)
[7:30] <sheerun> I use sudo :) I'm trying to do "dd" one more time.
[7:30] <sheerun> It seems recorded sdcard has read-only filesystem
[7:31] <sheerun> Like CD/DVD
[7:31] * darkbasic (~quassel@niko.linuxsystems.it) has joined #raspbian
[7:31] <UsecAgo> sheerun, that img shoul create 2 partitions in your sd /boot and /
[7:32] <sheerun> Indeed
[7:32] <UsecAgo> sheerun, try to mount the second one
[7:32] <sheerun> I want to edit file on the first one :)
[7:32] <UsecAgo> oh!
[7:32] <sheerun> So I can do headless boot
[7:32] <sheerun> cmdline.txt
[7:34] <ShorTie> raspbian by defualt has ssh enable and should have no problems doing a headless boot
[7:34] <ShorTie> that is if you can find the ip address of the pi
[7:36] <sheerun> oh
[7:36] <sheerun> That's good to know
[7:37] <sheerun> But I don't have ethernet too :D
[7:38] <sheerun> I'm thinking about wi-fi ssh login or something
[7:40] <ShorTie> wifi is pain because it is not setup
[7:40] <UsecAgo> at first run you can select that only ssh startup
[7:40] <UsecAgo> wifi can be configured before hand
[7:41] * darkbasic_ (~quassel@niko.linuxsystems.it) has joined #raspbian
[7:41] <sheerun> Now that I think about it, I can edit .iso itself, and burn it once again

[7:53] <UsecAgo> new question: I have a java program using a /dev/ttyACM0 created by a usb device. Sometimes and suddenly the usb drops and gets up in a new /dev/ttyACM1 rendering my program unusable; how do I analise what is going on ? why the USB deos that? do you know a step by step USB problem solving document?
[7:57] <ShorTie> what model pi ??
[7:57] <ShorTie> most likely power issue
[7:59] <ShorTie> the 1st thing the pi does is cut off the usb if you got power issues
[7:59] <scoofy_> slide: setxkbmap -layout "us" might also help

[8:25] <ShorTie> hub, if it follows usb spec, may not put out enough power for the pi
[8:25] <ShorTie> how big of supply does it have and is there any other usb-devices hooked up to it ??
[8:26] <ShorTie> how's the quality of the micro-usb cable suppling power to the pi ??
[8:27] <ShorTie> is it 1 of those cheap, thin, tensle coated plastic wire phone charging cords ??

[10:49] <chip_rider> I have a question not related directly to raspbian. Which toolchain are you using to compile a source code for the rpi? rpi-toolchain has 4 to choose from...
[10:49] <UsecAgo> how to do a dmesg that behaves like tail -f ?
[10:53] <UsecAgo> in debian I was told to do dmesg -w
[10:53] <UsecAgo> but not working here
[10:55] <chip_rider> UsecAgo, try out $ watch "dmesg | tail -20"
[10:55] <scoofy_> tail -f /var/log/kern.log
[10:58] <scoofy_> chip_rider: gcc
[10:58] <UsecAgo> is it possible to grep su I just have USB related info?
[10:59] <chip_rider> scoofy_, yes I know, but there are 4 different toolchains.

[11:00] <scoofy_> i guess x64 works only on a 64 bit machine
[11:01] <scoofy_> i suppose, hardfp has hard floating point support, the other doesn't
[11:01] <scoofy_> so i wouldn't use the latter
[11:03] <scoofy_> so what do you need... 32 or x64, hardfp or no hardfp support....
[11:03] * Domin (domin@70.39.90.69) has joined #raspbian
[11:03] <scoofy_> i'd guess, for raspi, you'd need arm-bcm2708hardfp-linux-gnueabi

[11:03] <scoofy_> then that may also be fine.
[11:04] <scoofy_> i haven't used either
[11:04] <chip_rider> yes then I have 2 different to choose
[11:04] <chip_rider> linaro armhf 64 or arm-bcm2708hardfp-linux-gnueabi
[11:05] <scoofy_> UsecAgo: i think '$ tail -f /var/log/kern.log | grep USB' may work for you
[11:07] <scoofy_> UsecAgo: or maybe $ watch "dmesg | grep USB | tail -n 20" or something like that
