[17:48] <shiftplusone> just throw a resistor in there

[18:00] <shiftplusone> I just wonder if the output stays at what you set it to when the input voltage starts to drop
[18:00] <moparisthebest> so I'd just put a trim resistor to limit it to 5v and hook it up?

[18:12] <moparisthebest> I see this http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/287-1108 which says 'Track Resistance: 200ohm', but I can't make out what the min/max is or how sensitive it is

[18:13] <moparisthebest> ah yea, so get a 215ish ohm resistor and a trimpot adjustable from 0ish to 50ish
[18:13] * rela (~x@pdpc/supporter/active/rela) has joined #raspbian
[18:14] <shiftplusone> That would work. I would recommend getting something over the entire range though. 10 turn if you can. That's optional though.
[18:14] <moparisthebest> or would something like this be better instead: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__10312__Turnigy_5A_8_26v_SBEC_for_Lipo.html would it keep 5V/5A even if the battery discharges a bit?
[18:15] <shiftplusone> You want constant voltage, not constant current
[18:15] <shiftplusone> I am not sure that description makes sense
[18:15] <moparisthebest> yea would it keep 5v as input voltage dropped from 12 to less-than-12
[18:16] <shiftplusone> "which will supply a constant 5A" "and supplies a constant 5 or 6v"

[18:16] <shiftplusone> both of those statements can't be true.
[18:16] <shiftplusone> It says 5A, not 5V
[18:16] <shiftplusone> A - Amps (current) V - Voltage

[18:17] <moparisthebest> it says 5V too
[18:17] <shiftplusone> You can't have both
[18:17] <moparisthebest> well you can switch between 5V and 6V on that one I guess?
[18:17] <shiftplusone> Whoever wrote that description is an idiot
[18:18] <moparisthebest> searching amazon for SBEC returns similar things too, this different one also says 5V/5A Continuous output
[18:18] <moparisthebest> http://www.amazon.com/Hobbypower-Module-Ardupilot-Megapirate-Flight/dp/B00HC8CAPG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1441217798&sr=8-5&keywords=SBEC
[18:18] <shiftplusone> They mean 5A max, not 5A constant.
[18:18] <moparisthebest> I'd *assume* it means continuous 5V and UP TO 5A
[18:18] <moparisthebest> yes
[18:18] <shiftplusone> A constant 5A would actually mean something completely different.

[22:20] <bluenote> do you keep the usb device plugged in all the time, or does it come in and out?
[22:21] <methuzla> bluenote the directory names refer to run levels, within directories, scripts are run in alphabetical order
[22:22] <bluenote> methuzla: ok, that's what I suspected. so the S01 S02 S03 S05 is a convention to manage execution order
[22:22] <methuzla> yes, and S means it's called with the parameter "start"
[22:22] <linwiz> bluenote: it would occasionally be removed to add more files, but the pi wouldn't be on during this time.
[22:24] <bluenote> methuzla: I assume that I'm sort of breaking things by not using a proper script that has the comments for update-rc.d support, but just putting a file link to a script should work and at the ordered point I want, shouldn't it?
[22:25] <methuzla> links are fine, that's what most of them are already
[22:26] <bluenote> methuzla: I don't think my script is executing, either that or it's not doing what it's supposed to do, what's a nice obvious way to check for execution?
[22:27] <bluenote> linwiz: is your problem that the mount fails, or is it there but not at the right time
[22:27] <linwiz> bluenote: you could echo "foobar" > /home/pi/test.file
[22:27] <bluenote> linwiz: thanks I'll try that

[22:28] <linwiz> I can run the script manually when I get a terminal and all is good.

[22:29] <bluenote> linwiz: are we talking about stuff in init.d ?

[23:34] <bluenote> linwiz: how'd it go
[23:35] <linwiz> I can't figure it out. It won't run automatically.

[23:55] <bluenote> yeah, me too. if I tally up the hours ..
[23:55] <bluenote> you should be able to mirror me and test execution by putting your link in rc.S and make your first line an echo test
[23:55] <bluenote> the rest of your script probably won't work there but you could prove the concept like that
[23:55] <bluenote> rcS.d
