[0:17] <Tenacious-Techhu> Is there a way to recover files deleted from the SD card?
[0:18] <JamesMcGregor> what kind of file and how long ago?
[0:18] <Tenacious-Techhu> A few text files, a few minutes ago.
[0:19] <Tenacious-Techhu> I moved them to the desktop of a new user, then deleted the old user, and the files went with them, I suppose because they technically still belonged to the old user.
[0:21] <Tenacious-Techhu> JamesMcGregor, is there a tool that will do that sort of file recovery?
[0:21] * vagrantc (~vagrant@unaffiliated/vagrantc) Quit (Quit: leaving)
[0:24] <JamesMcGregor> if you definately copied them to the new user, then they should be there, but power down the pi and dont use it if you're really set on recovering the information
[0:25] <Tenacious-Techhu> Is there a tool to do that sort of recovery, or not?
[0:26] <JamesMcGregor> Never had to go through recovery, but try this http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/80270/unix-linux-undelete-recover-deleted-files

[3:57] <Pied_> Hello
[3:57] <Pied_> I am making a Raspberry Pi Keyboard. My script for the buttons uses Python. My program works perfectly. Problem is when I click a button, a letter is only outputted If I am using the window that I executed the program with. How can I make it so I run my program, and when ever I press a button it will output the letter to what ever program I am currently using like a real keyboard?

[11:37] <safari> hi everyone! I'm working with external power sources for the first time and cant figure out how to turn on an externally powered device with gpio pins. the pi can be wall pwoered but the other device is like 50 volts and I need to have the pi turn it on and off. I've googled but cant even seem to form the question right. I think this is possible...to just turn on somethig with the gpio pins w/o burning the pi. Any ideas?
[11:42] <sd-m> relais that is 3v input although those are probably hard to find because coil need to be powerd
[11:42] <sd-m> best bet is a 5v relais they probably need 100ma
[11:42] <sd-m> you will need to use a transistor to drive it
[11:43] <sd-m> please take good care to make a protection circuit here
[11:45] <sd-m> you only should need the transistor input on the gpio in the end driving an relais causes dirty switching due to magnetic coil so i woulnd want to have that on the same power as the pi or powerd trough the board
[11:47] <sd-m> so basicly best would be to design a small circuit (ext powerd could be your 50v if you could tap some low voltage cause 50>5 is ineffecient to ) where you only need gnd and a 3,3v (gpio ) signal that drives a transistor
[11:47] <sd-m> the transisor in turn powers the coil of relais

[11:48] <safari> okay, so I do definitely need a relay
[11:48] <safari> ?
[11:49] <gordonDrogon> safari, plenty of Pi relay boards avalable - however be aware that almost all that say "Raspberry Pi" in their description are not. Unless they explicitly say "Raspberry Pi Compatible" or "Works directly with the Raspberry Pi" then it won't.
[11:49] <gordonDrogon> I recommend buying something designed for the Pi - e.g. the PiFace control board.
[11:51] * AirPlanes (~ShortBob@bzq-79-178-136-195.red.bezeqint.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[11:52] <safari> I was hoping that was not the case. Space and form factor are a problem and it just needs one circuit on and off! Thanks sd-m and gordonDrogon , i'll look into official relays
[11:52] <sd-m> that would be alot better if all the area's of electronics are new like never done transtor oid
[11:53] <gordonDrogon> safari, the PiFace sits directly on-top of the Pi.
[11:56] <sd-m> in that case you should go gordonDrogon's route it is easily possible but the amount design it would add if you had to do it yourself would probably turn you off for just turning a thing on and off
[11:59] <sd-m> btw thanks for pointing me to your code did make some things more clear was going to try turning on a led soon but 31 c here and melting so not the quickest
[11:59] <sd-m> that was for gordonDrogon :)
[12:01] <gordonDrogon> ok :)
[12:01] <gordonDrogon> yea, it's a bit warm here too!
[12:02] <gordonDrogon> I've had 100's of emails from people who've tried to save money by buying relay boards via ebay/china/etc. and frankly, it's not worth it. I know that things like Piface are more expensive, but at least you're getting something that works on the Pi and you get support and sample code to drive it.

[12:22] <gordonDrogon> 10A 250V is what's on the relays on the PiFaces I have here.

[12:23] <gordonDrogon> Not that I'd use them with 250v, however...
