[0:48] <PredaGR> hello again people, trying to install Samba4 but.. ProvisioningError: guess_names: Realm 'WORKGROUP' must not be equal to short domain name 'WORKGROUP'! and it fails dpkg: error processing samba4, is there any work around, specifically looking for some smb.conf options that might resolve this
[0:51] * blkaway is now known as blkhawk

[0:57] <Eoghan_> evening ... anyone here that could help me with a wifi issue?
[0:57] <PredaGR> why asking to ask, just ask
[0:58] <Eoghan_> I have my wifi ubs card working with xbian but cab not get it working running rasbian
[0:59] <Eoghan_> I have tried editing the /etc/network/interfaces and manually config with /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 essid
[1:00] <PredaGR> is the interface showing on iwconfig?
[1:00] <Eoghan_> I know they are different builds what what can I do to make them closer.
[1:00] <Eoghan_> wlan0 unassociated Nickname:"<WIFI@REALTEK>" Mode:Managed Frequency=2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated Sensitivity:0/0 Retry:off RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Power Management:off Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0 Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
[1:01] <Eoghan_> that didn't paste well
[1:01] <Eoghan_> ifconfig show the mac
[1:02] <Eoghan_> and I believe the os loads a rtl8712 driver in both builds
[1:02] <PredaGR> maybe you missing wpa-supplicant if you trying a wpa network?
[1:03] <Eoghan_> but widows says it's a 8191s not that it would make a difference
[1:04] * wiiguy (~fake@unaffiliated/wiiguy) Quit (Quit: I just broke my connection, but no worries, we can rebuild it. We have the technology.)
[1:04] <Eoghan_> no it should be a wep network
[1:04] <Eoghan_> I ran apt-get install wpasupplicant
[1:06] <PredaGR> driver seems correct
[1:06] <Eoghan_> I know wpa is better but I'm not concerned about high security where the router is
[1:07] <Eoghan_> when running ifup wlan0
[1:08] <PredaGR> also keys correct should I guess?
[1:08] * simone__ (~simone@host224-156-dynamic.21-79-r.retail.telecomitalia.it) has joined #raspbian

[1:09] <Eoghan_> some router same ssid same password
[1:09] <Eoghan_> I have even tried wpa_passphrase My_WiFi_SSID mypassword to build the key
[1:10] * pi1 is now known as slystone
[1:10] <Eoghan_> di I need quotes around the ssid / passwd
[1:10] <PredaGR> if it has spaces most likely
[1:11] * gev (~Gareth@S0106001839c586cb.cg.shawcable.net) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[1:11] <Eoghan_> how do I set wep / wpa using iwconfig commands

[1:14] <PredaGR> as normal, should been working, any weird messages in the console or syslog when you do service networking restart?
[1:17] <Eoghan_> nothing stands out in dmesg is there somewhere else I should look
[1:18] <PredaGR> ohh and password needs to be in HEX in the interfaces file, otherwise if it is a string you might need to use.. hmm...

[1:24] <PredaGR> you have DHCP both on cable and wireless?
[1:24] <Eoghan_> that is odd :75 is my wired card
[1:24] <Eoghan_> it should be trying on :eb
[1:24] <PredaGR> sudo ifdown eth0
[1:24] <PredaGR> sudo ifup wlan0
[1:25] <Eoghan_> Yes I have DHCP on both cable and wireless
[1:25] <PredaGR> you do know you can have only one gateway unless you go deep into a complex route table
[1:26] <PredaGR> should advise to use static address on the wired interface or remove the "auto eth0" so it will not come up
[1:26] <Eoghan_> one gateway. it works for many other devices and even this pi running xbian
[1:28] <PredaGR> maybe if you had a network manager on the others it could been managed differently?
[1:28] <Eoghan_> I am ssh into the pi because the screen is screwed on the TV to far to the left and down a could rows.
[1:28] <Eoghan_> I would need to fix the screen before I can really use the console.
[1:28] <PredaGR> let me pastebin an interfaces as an example for both wired and wireless as mine
[1:29] <Eoghan_> so many problems
[1:32] <PredaGR> mine looks like http://pastebin.com/TWYafk4f except some edited parts for security
[1:32] <PredaGR> also headless since day 1

[1:37] <Eoghan_> making some edits
[1:38] <Eoghan_> so if I take the pi another house I would have to manually config
[1:39] <PredaGR> try wicd
[1:39] <PredaGR> wifi network manager for console
[1:41] <PredaGR> but be warned, it will automagically work your connections, be sure to have some static somewhere so you know where to find it, I create aliases in case I need DHCP on the wired side
[1:41] <PredaGR> like eth0:0
[1:41] <PredaGR> or, you could always create a static on the main interface and an alias for the DHCP
[1:42] <Eoghan_> true
[1:44] * pi1 (~pi@78.193.178.26) has joined #raspbian

[1:53] <Eoghan_> Pred
[1:53] <Eoghan_> PredaGR: found it
[1:54] <PredaGR> tell me
[1:56] <Eoghan_> cool two things ... 1) installed apache2 and it was doing something with can not find fqdn and using 127.0.0.1 so I edited the host table ?? might have done something
[1:56] <PredaGR> do not ruin 127.0.0.1, you need it
[1:58] <Eoghan_> 2) double checked the nomenclature for the /interface file and it wants wireless-essid / wireless-key for wep connections
[1:58] <PredaGR> I did send you those in the pastebin
[1:59] <PredaGR> the thing is, did it work?
[2:00] <Eoghan_> yes that is where I noticed it was different. but it did not work until I added the FQDN for the Apache2 Website.
[2:00] <Eoghan_> so I now have two itnerfaces up and working.
[2:01] <PredaGR> Fully Qualified Domain Name has nothing to do with bringing up the interfaces
[2:01] <PredaGR> it is the name for apache when looking up from what host to serve the requests
[2:02] <PredaGR> you can have several virtual hosts on the same IP for example
[2:02] <Eoghan_> I know ... but apache was complaining about the FQDN so I shut it up and edited the host file.
[2:02] <PredaGR> and you did what to the hosts?
[2:02] <Eoghan_> and it worked.
[2:02] <PredaGR> you know, when it will look for localhost
[2:02] <PredaGR> and not find it
[2:02] <PredaGR> you might have unexpected... troubles
[2:02] <PredaGR> 127.0.0.1 is lo, or localhost
[2:03] <Eoghan_> no it was looking for novalug.ca and was not finding it
[2:03] <PredaGR> anyways, if it breaks, give the localhost back to the 127.0.0.1
[2:04] <Eoghan_> no I did not change localhost I just added 127.0.0.1 novalug.ca to the hosts file.
[2:05] <Eoghan_> why that would have anything to do with it I don't know.
[2:05] <PredaGR> that would work, everytime you looking for novalug.ca it will look to 127.0.0.1
[2:06] <Eoghan_> I made the edit you gave and it still did not work but apache was complaining so I did this too and bingo.
[2:06] <PredaGR> external requests would work, but from inside the same machine, if novalug.ca is real somewhere out there, you will not be able to reach it again
[2:06] <Eoghan_> novalug.ca is one of my domains I want to put on a pi.
[2:07] <Eoghan_> Novalug is mine.
[2:07] <Eoghan_> I was playing with apache earlier this week.
[2:08] <PredaGR> your problem was the wireless-* most likely, apache is another matter all together
[2:08] <Eoghan_> yes I know
[2:09] <Eoghan_> but it amazing how when you fix one the other is happy to.
[2:09] <PredaGR> you mean fixing apache made wireless happy?
[2:09] <PredaGR> or fixing wireless made apache happy?
[2:10] <Eoghan_> the weird part is apache comes after wlan0
[2:10] <PredaGR> apache, has nothing to do with the interfaces, really
[2:10] <Eoghan_> Well I added your edits and no joy.
[2:10] <PredaGR> if you say so..
[2:11] <PredaGR> must send to apache.org to stop tinkering with your wireless heh
[2:12] <Eoghan_> got tired of looking at the message from apache ... could not reliably determine the servers FQDN using 127 so I added the host line and now I have joy
[2:12] <PredaGR> either way, localhost AKA 127.0.0.1 is always up
[2:12] <PredaGR> no matter if you have wired or wireless
[2:13] <Eoghan_> No matter what you put me in the right direction to use wireless-key for wep keys so you win
[2:13] <PredaGR> you just provided a name to apache
[2:15] * PredaGR prays for samba4 to install this time....
[2:16] <Eoghan_> good luck. Need to get a vodka then I will be back. to try something else.
[2:16] <PredaGR> hello again people, trying to install Samba4 but.. [2:19] <PredaGR> AD?
[2:20] <PredaGR> ohh no active directory
[2:20] <PredaGR> just standalone file sharing
[2:20] <Eoghan_> or just window boxes? MS active directory? That message looks like it could be from an old server
[2:20] <Eoghan_> no just a file share K

[6:31] <lickalott_> hello all. I have an SD card that i formatted for raspbian using the win32diskimager. I upgraded the SD card and want to use the old one for something but it's only showing 78mb usable with 7.x GB unallocated. windows doesn't want to do anything with it. is gparted my best option?
[6:31] * lickalott_ is now known as lickalott
[6:32] <ParkerR_> lickalott, What are you wanting to do with the old card?
[6:33] <lickalott> gave my mom my old droid phone and want to give her a decent sized SD card for it.
[6:33] <lickalott> lol @ ParkerR_ in both chans...
[6:33] <ParkerR_> Ok then either Easeus partition on windows or gparted on linux
[6:33] <piney> i don't know about best, but gparted is a sutible option to reformat the card to allocate all the space
[6:34] <lickalott> kewl.. i'm on it.

[19:46] <matthiasb> Hi, i installed xrdp and it seems to work fine. Except pcmanfs goes berserk at first chance.
[19:47] <matthiasb> Even after logging out it remains zombie and hogs 100% CPU.
[19:47] <matthiasb> Unfortunately this leaves the system virtually unusable.
[19:47] <matthiasb> Getting rid of pcmanfs is rather counter-productive as i wish to keep a gui.
[19:48] <matthiasb> Does anyone know what may cause that and if the xrdp-ish VNC is responsible for that?

[23:42] <Sjors> a 10-line patch I imported from http://www.timandpaige.com/technology/installing-mongodb-on-the-raspberry-pi-part-2
[23:42] <Sjors> testing it now
[23:43] <maswan> and is there any point/chance of getting that into debian proper?

[23:43] <plugwash> umm but the Pi is NOT armv7
[23:43] * kouskous is now known as Guest88222
[23:43] <Sjors> er
[23:43] <Sjors> well, arm in general I guess
[23:44] <Sjors> #if defined(__ARMEL__) || defined(__ARM_ARCH_5T__) || defined(__ARM_PCS) || defined(__ARM_EABI__)
[23:44] * Guest88222 is now known as legrain
[23:45] <plugwash> also why 2.1.1 ?
[23:45] <plugwash> that doesn't match either the version in debian testing or the version in debian unstable.....
[23:45] <Sjors> I'm importing the patch into 2.0.6
[23:45] <Sjors> but they are describing 2.1.1 because it's the version they tested with
[23:51] <plugwash> ah ok well the patch looks sane enough to me, once you have a confirmed working debdiff please get back to me
[23:52] <plugwash> and please file a bug in debian too, it's unlikely to be fixed there until after wheezy release but it should still be tracked on that side
[23:52] * legrain is now known as slystone
[23:53] <Sjors> OK, will do :)
[23:59] * monkeycoder (~monkeycod@178.120.165.73) has joined #raspbian
