[14:16] <fommil> hi all, does anybody here have a device with HF and the JVM working? I'd like to use you as my guinea pig for a few moments if that's ok? (to test my build of https://github.com/fommil/netlib-java/issues/26 )
[14:19] <fommil> ok, might just have to do it myself
[14:20] <fommil> I have the V2 RPi and the installer. But I don't have a monitor that I can connect the RPi to. Can I do the install remotely over WiFi (I have a USB dongle) or network cable?

[18:29] <foofoobar> I tried setting a differenct aspect with my TV (currently it's 16:9), but then I got even worse
[18:29] <foofoobar> What do I have to do to show it correctly?

[18:53] <sney> foofoobar: it may help to disable overscan on your tv
[18:53] <foofoobar> sney, overscan on my tv? I dont have such a configuration option
[18:54] <sney> it may be called something else depending on your locale. basically a tv signal can send a bigger image than the actual screen dimensions and "overscan" allows it to appear on the screen with no black borders
[18:55] <sney> but this causes a problem when you give it a signal with the exact dimensions and it bleeds over the side in the same way
[19:08] <nullie> foofoobar, you use composite video out?
[19:08] <foofoobar> nullie, HDMI
[19:08] <nullie> overscan is option on video card, not tv
[19:08] <nullie> and no overscan on hdmi
[19:09] <nullie> foofoobar, you booted with hdmi connected?
[19:09] <foofoobar> I'm using raspbmc, they had a tool to calibrate
[19:09] <sney> my little dinky hdtv has it. I had to turn it off to see the menu bar.
[19:09] <nullie> interesting
[19:09] <foofoobar> the interface is now okay, but I dont know what happens if I get back to terminal
[19:09] <foofoobar> But I still ahve not figured out how to get back to terminal..
[19:10] <foofoobar> Connecting over ssh is okay
[19:10] <nullie> ctrl+alt+f2
[19:10] <nullie> probably
[19:10] <nullie> or fX
[19:10] <foofoobar> I'll try it
[19:10] <nullie> well, you probably can shut down xbmc to get into console too
[19:11] <nullie> don't know why would you want that
[19:11] <sney> raspbmc has their own irc channel, don't they?
[19:13] <foofoobar> oh, didnt know that

[23:38] <sney> plugwash, what about using the http.debian.net whatsit instead
[23:38] <sney> https://github.com/rgeissert/http-redirector
[23:45] <plugwash> I looked at it and decided against it, it's more efficient but also not as good at dealing with badly behaved mirrors
[23:45] <sney> is that really a concern for the raspbian mirrors?
[23:46] <plugwash> Debian is very strict about making it's mirrors follow certain "good practices", we have never pushed that on raspbian mirrors maybe we should have but it's a bit late now :/
[23:47] * bossjones (~bossjones@cpe-66-108-172-86.nyc.res.rr.com) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[23:47] <plugwash> also afaict if a mirror is outdated or in the middle of an update afaict the http.debian.net system can't use it at all while mirrorbrain can keep using it for the files it does have
[23:47] <sney> yeah. http.d.n compensates for that by there just being a shit ton of mirrors
[23:50] * \\Mr_C\\ (mrc@66-168-168-33.dhcp.jcsn.tn.charter.com) Quit ()
[23:53] <plugwash> Yeah, which is fine for debian, not so good for us especially in our early days
[23:54] <plugwash> we actually have quite good mirror coverage now but we didn't when I first set up mirror redirection
[23:55] <plugwash> and once you understand it's principles of operation (which are not well documented) and get through the setup process than it's not so bad, it's just when I have to do something like update the OS or install it on a new box (i'm currently migrating raspbian.org to a new server) that it's a pain
[23:58] <sney> nod
