[12:03] <gregc2> ugh, some of my raspbi pi's just lock straight up
[12:03] <gnarface> M3mphiZ: not really sure why you'd want that cause it'd be really really slow but i think the debian armel port does ... (its not rasbian though, the whole point of raspbian is not to use soft-float)
[12:04] <Defiant> gnarface: do you have a benchmark
[12:04] <M3mphiZ> gnarface: well the problem is that i want to use mono (C#) and there seems to be an issue with Math.Pow(4,2) not resulting in 16 with hard-float versions of raspbian
[12:04] <gnarface> Defiant: no
[12:05] <M3mphiZ> gnarface: or is this "bug" fixed ?
[12:05] <gnarface> M3mphiZ: i have nothing helpful to say about mono or C#
[12:06] <M3mphiZ> do you have a raspbian running? could you maybe do me the huge favor and test?
[12:06] <gnarface> M3mphiZ: you want me to give my pi mono? no thanks
[12:06] <M3mphiZ> gnarface: :D
[12:06] <M3mphiZ> gnarface: the command line version would be enough :) you can uninstall afterwards ^^

[12:10] <M3mphiZ> gnarface: and then in the csharp shell type: Math.Pow(2, 4); and tell me it gives you 16 as the result :D
[12:10] <gnarface> sorry M3mphiZ in the middle of something
[12:11] <M3mphiZ> gnarface: :(
[12:11] <gnarface> i recommend you do it yourself then like... report a bug
[12:11] <M3mphiZ> Anyone here willing to test this for me? 3 simple commands...
[12:11] <M3mphiZ> gnarface: i dont have my raspberry pi yet, it should arrive later but i want to be ready
[12:11] <gnarface> ah, i see
[12:11] <gnarface> where did you hear about this bug in the first place?
[12:12] <M3mphiZ> multiple blogs who installed mono and where confused about floating point calculations
[12:12] <gnarface> is this only a problem with mono?
[12:13] <gnarface> or is floating point whack elsewhere in raspbian?
[12:13] * gordonDrogon wonders how you can get something as simple as a power function wrong...
[12:13] * gordonDrogon fires up basic on a Pi... ? 4^2
[12:13] <gnarface> M3mphiZ: here's the part where i recommend you try using something else for whatever it is you're doing ... like C++ perhaps
[12:13] <M3mphiZ> gnarface: im a C# dev, and i dont want to rewrite all of my code just to run it on raspberry pi :)
[12:13] <gordonDrogon> which says 16. (unsurprisingly)
[12:14] <M3mphiZ> gordonDrogon: hmm.. either its fixed now or it just happens with mono...
[12:14] <gordonDrogon> I don't think it's ever been wrong...
[12:15] <gordonDrogon> unless it's just local to mono.
[12:15] <gordonDrogon> what does it give you?
[12:15] <gordonDrogon> my basic uses the standard C library.
[12:15] <M3mphiZ> gordonDrogon: i dont have my raspberry pi yet but multiple blogs state that it gives some weird number instead of 16
[12:16] <gordonDrogon> it sounds somewhat suspicious.
[12:16] <M3mphiZ> http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19319&p=188823
[12:17] <gordonDrogon> looks like plugwash suggests using Debian wheezy armel.
[12:17] <gordonDrogon> software FP, so lower.
[12:17] <gordonDrogon> *slower.
[12:17] <gnarface> damn. so its a mono bug?
[12:18] <gnarface> and still not fixed?
[12:18] <gordonDrogon> well the standard C library gets it right, so ..
[12:18] <M3mphiZ> well then there is this: https://lists.debian.org/debian-arm/2012/02/msg00000.html
[12:18] <gnarface> that's sad even for mono... one would think there is an easy fix if a bug report were simply filed ot the right place
[12:18] <M3mphiZ> so i dont know if its debian or mono who has to fix it
[12:18] <gnarface> unless the mono project just hates raspbian
[12:19] <gordonDrogon> the comment: This situation is a bit on the crappy side of crap.
[12:19] <gordonDrogon> sort of sums it up!
[12:19] <gordonDrogon> I suspect the hacks applied to make it work for armel just break even more under armhf.

[12:25] <ioudas> hey all, for some reason my raspberry pi's will randomly lock up and require a power reset to boot. sometimes when the network wifi drops it will occour, if i drop the network adapter by removal of the adapter or just randomly. I have pi on its own 1a power source. etc. doesnt seem to help
[12:25] <gnarface> ioudas: overclocking?
[12:25] <ioudas> none
[12:26] <gnarface> usually its a problem with the power supply
[12:26] <ioudas> i have a powered hub in the mix. usb devices connect to that, keyboard, wifi, and a symbol scanner which uses ungodly power
[12:26] * WORKOwl is now known as AWAYOwl
[12:26] * asdqwedas (~undi@77.231.252.105) Quit (Quit: Saliendo)
[12:26] <gnarface> got a multimeter you can use to test the power supplies?
[12:27] <ioudas> yes
[12:27] <gnarface> sometimes they don't perform to spec
[12:27] <ioudas> i will be doing that
[12:27] <gnarface> sometimes they go out of whack after they heat up
[12:27] <gnarface> (heating up is also a sign of a very poor quality power supply if its only for 1A)
[12:27] <ioudas> what would you guys recommend for a long lasting decent power supply
[12:27] <gnarface> that's a good question indeed
[12:28] <gnarface> i've been pretty lucky just with spare cheap phone chargers but other people have been equally unlucky so..
[12:28] <gnarface> i'm sure there's info in the forums
[12:28] <ioudas> rgr
[12:28] <M3mphiZ> gordonDrogon: could you run those 3 commands and tell me if it works ? :)
[12:29] <gordonDrogon> what 3 command?
[12:29] <gnarface> also, people have had very bad luck using power from USB ports on laptops, tvs, miscelaneous devices, but i've *never* had a problem using USB ports from an asus desktop motherboard
[12:29] <gnarface> ioudas: ^
[12:29] <M3mphiZ> gordonDrogon: sudo apt-get install mono-runtime mono-csharp-shell
[12:29] <ioudas> i wonder what other embedded pc's are around with better usb architecture.
[12:29] <gordonDrogon> eek. oh. hang on.
[12:29] <M3mphiZ> gordonDrogon: and then in the csharp shell type: Math.Pow(2, 4); and tell me it gives you 16 as the result :D
[12:29] <ioudas> yeah, we've tried phone chargers, and ive tried a few others.
[12:30] <gordonDrogon> Hm. 20 new packages...
[12:30] <ioudas> im starting to think its just pi design, repeating keys, lock ups, etc.
[12:30] <ioudas> dvi will drop out on these suckers and come back sometimes
[12:31] <M3mphiZ> gordonDrogon: you can do remove --auto-remove afterwards :)
[12:31] <gordonDrogon> ioudas, I get repeating/stuck keys occasionally - it does seem to be power related )-:
[12:31] <ioudas> we noticed that, and fixed it by seperating the pi to its own power source
[12:31] <ioudas> but
[12:31] <ioudas> its not enough apparently
[12:31] <gnarface> well, anything is possible, but the typical causes are (in this order) power supply, overclocking, or really badly below-spec SD cards
[12:31] <ioudas> 140 microamp per port is just
[12:32] <ioudas> laughable
[12:32] <gnarface> i have a lot of problem with dropped/repeated keys too, but its my really crappy wireless keyboard at fault. it only happens when i'm greater than 3 feet away from the pi
[12:33] <gnarface> ioudas: have you considered it could be a driver related issue with one of your less common add-on devices though?
[12:33] <gordonDrogon> csharp> Math.Pow(10, 10);
[12:33] <gordonDrogon> 10000000000
[12:33] <gordonDrogon> csharp> Math.Pow(4,2);
[12:33] <gordonDrogon> 16
[12:33] <gnarface> suggests its fixed!
[12:33] <gnarface> right?
[12:33] <gordonDrogon> I guess so.
[12:34] <M3mphiZ> Nice!!!
[12:34] <M3mphiZ> Thanks for testing!
[12:34] <gordonDrogon> 10^2 = 100 and 7^7 is 823543
[12:34] <gordonDrogon> which is the same as I get with bc.
[12:34] <ioudas> its not, these usb devices have been replaced
[12:34] <ioudas> changed
[12:34] <ioudas> im on my 3rd iteration of wifi cards
[12:34] <ioudas> i think ive done all we can to provide the pi with power, suitable devices
[12:34] <M3mphiZ> gordonDrogon: youre running the official image from the raspberry pi downloads section right?
[12:35] <gordonDrogon> M3mphiZ, yes.

[17:31] <DarylXian> gordonDrogon: ldd doesn't work in the chroot.
[17:32] <gordonDrogon> don't use chroot then...
[17:32] <gordonDrogon> or move ldd into it.
[17:33] <DarylXian> oppe: You'll need to provide details of what you've done, what you're seeing, etc. Post that info to pastebin, then someone might be able to help
[17:33] <oppe> ok thanks
[17:33] <DarylXian> gordonDrogon: x86_64 ldd can't deal with arm bins.
[17:33] <oppe> but i did 1 step wrong but now is ok
[17:34] <gordonDrogon> ah- your cross compiling.
[17:34] <DarylXian> gordonDrogon: yep ... and, now, attempting to pkg my results for deploy to the Rpi
[17:34] <gordonDrogon> why not do a final compile/package make on the Pi?

[17:38] <DarylXian> well, with that info, my answer is maybe
[17:38] <Justanick> RDP, VNC, NoMachine
[17:39] <DarylXian> VNC certainly works. Just search on raspbian+vnc
[17:40] <Justanick> I know VNC, but it didn't work very well in the past.
[17:41] <Justanick> I used a look time NoMachine on a x86 machine, but it wil not work on ARM
[17:41] * DarylXian pulls a tooth
[17:41] <DarylXian> Ok, what works to your satisfaction?

[21:23] <gordonDrogon> never heard of it. I've had used rsync myself.
[21:23] <Guest86408> rsync with davfs2 ?
[21:23] <gordonDrogon> no.
[21:24] <gordonDrogon> rsync with.... rsync. it uses ssh.
[21:24] <gordonDrogon> or nfs.
[21:24] <gordonDrogon> nfs would be faster than rsync.
[21:24] <Guest86408> ok sorry

[21:24] <gordonDrogon> you have 2 Linux PCs - there are dozens of ways to copy data.
[21:25] <Guest86408> but with owncloud I believe that I need to transfer with webdav (davfs2) to let owncloud insert the new file in is database
[21:26] <gordonDrogon> I've no idea, really. not used it - I thought you were copying from 2 Linux PCs - wasn't sure why owncloud was there.
[21:26] <Guest86408> yes the source pc is ubuntu 13.10, the destination is my raspberry (raspbian)

[21:29] <Guest86408> i tried owncloud only for 1 little transfer, i tried yes the webdav solution
[21:30] <Guest86408> i tried yet the webdav solution
[21:30] <Guest86408> maybee davfs is not the best solution
[21:30] <diederik> you can (probably do that too), but I'd split the upload in various pieces if I were you
[21:31] <Guest86408> sorry, it s not a big file of 6Go, but a lot of little files

[22:31] <oppe> ctrl + x - Y - ENter no?
[22:31] <diederik> then back on the commandline, you do 'sudo apt-key ...'
[22:31] <oppe> perfect
[22:31] <diederik> I think so, but you should see that at the bottom

[22:31] <diederik> (I use vim)
[22:32] <oppe> perfect
[22:32] <oppe> have u xbmc?
[22:32] <diederik> no, not yet.
[22:33] <diederik> I have run the xbmc image (raspbmc iirc), but didn't like it.
[22:33] <diederik> I want the underlying debian, since that's familiar, and run xbmc as a normal program.
[22:33] <oppe> ahm
[22:33] <oppe> do u like series tv? like Breaking bad etc?
[22:34] <diederik> So I'll either have to compile it myself from source (should be fun) or use the same guide you're following.
[22:34] <diederik> I do like tv series, but haven't see breaking bad (yet). I'm currently watching NCIS LA
[22:36] <diederik> Regarding raspbian, I'm mostly trying to add functionality to the raspbian-ua-netinst (https://github.com/hifi/raspbian-ua-netinst)
