[0:01] <gnarface> yea
[0:01] <osman> okay
[0:01] <osman> ill close it now
[0:03] <osman> so it failed on port 80
[0:03] <osman> want me to grant you control
[0:03] <gnarface> ok so it can only be running once at a time
[0:03] <gnarface> type this: ps aux |grep ssh
[0:03] <gnarface> you can only establish one tunnel per port
[0:04] <gnarface> see? you're already running it TWICe
[0:04] <gnarface> fucking make that window bigger or you can't read shit anyway
[0:05] * chandoo_ (~chandoo@ool-ad03792a.dyn.optonline.net) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[0:05] <gnarface> wtf is all the rest of this crap in your rc.local?
[0:07] <osman> i think its so it autostarts the camera
[0:07] <gnarface> it shoudl work now
[0:07] <gnarface> test it
[0:07] <osman> moment of truth
[0:07] <osman> :/
[0:08] <gnarface> wait, let me see the terminal again
[0:08] <gnarface> the terminal
[0:08] <osman> okay
[0:09] * trisi_ (~trisi@66-230-100-81-rb1.sol.dsl.dynamic.acsalaska.net) has joined #raspbian
[0:09] <gnarface> are you sure that the camera is listening on port 80?
[0:10] <gnarface> stop fullscreening everything
[0:10] <gnarface> if you can't read the terminal and this window at once, neither of us are gonna get anything done
[0:11] <osman> ok
[0:11] <osman> when i type 192.168.1.2 in it connects to the cam
[0:11] <gnarface> select the terminal again
[0:11] <gnarface> this is a LOT more difficult because you're using windows
[0:12] * trisi (~trisi@66-230-103-110-rb1.nwc.dsl.dynamic.acsalaska.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[0:12] * trisi_ is now known as trisi
[0:12] <gnarface> you need nmap
[0:12] <osman> ok
[0:12] <osman> i have it on windows but thats irrelevant
[0:15] <gnarface> when it didn't work, the FIRST thing you should have done is install nmap so you could test
[0:15] <osman> im kind of new to all of this i wouldnt have known to use nmap
[0:16] <gnarface> nmap, traceroute, tcpdump
[0:16] <gnarface> learn those three tools
[0:16] <gnarface> they're fundamental
[0:16] <atouk> if yo have an android phone, get an app called fing
[0:17] * trisi_ (~trisi@63-140-91-234.dynamic.dsl.acsalaska.net) has joined #raspbian
[0:17] <atouk> scans network, tests ports, etc
[0:17] <atouk> free
[0:19] * trisi (~trisi@66-230-100-81-rb1.sol.dsl.dynamic.acsalaska.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[0:19] * trisi_ is now known as trisi
[0:19] <gnarface> osman: did you get a firewall installed by default on this vps?
[0:20] <osman> not that i know of let me check theirshitty cpanel
[0:20] <gnarface> you shouldn't have had cpanel on it either
[0:21] <gnarface> you didn't rent the one i recommended, did you?
[0:21] <gnarface> you spent more?
[0:21] <gnarface> that could be the problem
[0:21] <gnarface> cpanel breaks shit
[0:21] <osman> i did the first one
[0:21] <osman> on vpslink
[0:21] <osman> it was the xen
[0:22] <gnarface> i didn't have cpanel on mine...
[0:22] <osman> it doesnt really have a cpanel
[0:22] <osman> just server info
[0:22] <gnarface> put the terminal backup
[0:23] <gnarface> can't type
[0:23] <osman> that was weird
[0:23] * hououina (~hououina@c-71-60-244-180.hsd1.pa.comcast.net) has joined #raspbian
[0:25] * durandal (~cag@host86-130-70-137.range86-130.btcentralplus.com) Quit (Quit: Ex-Chat)
[0:29] <gnarface> well something is wrong
[0:31] * piney0 (piney0@unaffiliated/piney0) Quit (Quit: ZNC - http://znc.in)
[0:33] <gnarface> i got some unfortunate news for you osman
[0:33] <osman> what : o
[0:33] <gnarface> this is NOT the same setup i rented from them
[0:33] <osman> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbhYqV17CoQ
[0:33] <osman> well darn
[0:33] <osman> il lsubit mit a support ticket
[0:34] <osman> what should I write
[0:34] <gnarface> well i'm not sure they can help since nothing is technically wrong
[0:34] <osman> i think they can change
[0:34] <osman> servers as long as it costs less
[0:34] <gnarface> what it *seems* like has happened is you rented a vps from them that 1) is firewalled up stream 2) has cpanel 3) is not debian
[0:34] <osman> fark
[0:34] <osman> i think i can change os
[0:35] <gnarface> i really can't even imagine how its possible you could have fucked this up this badly
[0:35] <gnarface> i'm re-evaluating all the steps i've taken to try to figure out if i'm going insane or you're just trolling me for the luls
[0:35] * vagrantc (~vagrant@freegeek/vagrantc) Quit (Quit: leaving)
[0:35] <osman> i bought the first one you sent me
[0:35] <osman> im being serious
[0:35] * lvispy (~luiz@177.220.188.232) has joined #raspbian
[0:35] <gnarface> i sent you a link with a page that has like 4 options on it
[0:35] <gnarface> then you went offline
[0:36] <gnarface> we never really confirmed the actual appropriate one
[0:36] <osman> well shit
[0:36] <osman> thats where i went wrong
[0:36] <gnarface> and each one had like 7 different linux versions availalbe... i guess i just assumed you would have goten the debian one since that's most like raspbian
[0:36] <gnarface> but again, you were offline before we could even confer on it
[0:37] <gnarface> the one *i* rented from them was xen, had debian, did NOT have cpanel, and did not have a default firewall
[0:37] <gnarface> i *suspect* that one of those things you did differently from me
[0:37] <osman> the only had one xen option I thought I chose debian
[0:37] <osman> il llet them know
[0:37] <gnarface> but really at this point i'm just theorizing
[0:38] <gnarface> i'm almost as confused as you are now
[0:38] <gnarface> what you're trying to do though, should work, and i in fact did it for several months
[0:38] * trisi_ (~trisi@209-112-147-121-rb1.nwc.dsl.dynamic.acsalaska.net) has joined #raspbian
[0:38] <gnarface> so its down to trying to figure out what is different about your setup from mine
[0:38] <osman> I sent in a ticket
[0:38] <osman> i could have messed up with the keys
[0:39] <osman> i went through it like 5 times
[0:39] <gnarface> no its not the keys
[0:39] <gnarface> its not the keys
[0:39] <gnarface> the keys are fine
[0:39] <osman> yo
[0:39] <gnarface> but when i open the ssh tunnel
[0:39] <osman> it turns out it is debian
[0:39] <osman> http://prntscr.com/3b0j5m
[0:39] <gnarface> then why doesn't it have apt-get?
[0:39] <osman> i think it messed up
[0:39] <gnarface> sigh
[0:39] <osman> sometimes thath appened to me
[0:39] <osman> i dont know the cause but apt get wouldnt work once
[0:40] <osman> or commands
[0:40] <osman> i ahd to restart
[0:40] <gnarface> well here's the deal, the ssh key seems to work. the pi can open a tunnel to the vps, but the port (1234 in this case) on the vps still isn't available from the outside after that. this suggests they're firwalling for you ...
[0:41] <osman> alright Ill update the support ticket
[0:41] <gnarface> so i opened the ssh tunnel and at that point you should be able to at least see the open port
[0:41] <gnarface> i can only assume you must have ordered a vps with some sort of training wheels on it
[0:41] * trisi (~trisi@63-140-91-234.dynamic.dsl.acsalaska.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[0:41] * trisi_ is now known as trisi
[0:41] <osman> so now everything should work if it ell them to open that port
[0:41] <gnarface> yea i think so
[0:42] <gnarface> i could be wrong
[0:42] <gnarface> its been a long day
[0:42] <gnarface> if that was actually debian then apt-get would work too
[0:42] * Lucretia (~munkee@pdpc/supporter/active/lucretia) Quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[0:42] <osman> didnt apt-get work for nmap
[0:42] <osman> oh that was on the pi
[0:42] <gnarface> on the pi, yes
[0:42] <gnarface> but the vps didn't have it
[0:43] <gnarface> so something is very different about yours
[0:43] <gnarface> something bad
[0:43] <gnarface> maybe its related to why the ports aren't open
[0:43] <osman> ill add that to the ticket
[0:43] * Lucretia (~munkee@pdpc/supporter/active/lucretia) has joined #raspbian
[0:43] <gnarface> try nmap yourse.f
[0:43] <gnarface> yourself*
[0:43] <osman> okay
[0:43] <gnarface> i ran nmap from your pi to the vps and got a bunch of filtered ports
[0:44] <osman> -bash: apt-get: command not found [root@sienk ~]#
[0:44] <osman> that sucks
[0:44] <gnarface> mine doesn't do that
[0:44] <osman> i think its a problem on their end
[0:44] <osman> llet me switch to my home internet
[0:45] <osman> back
[0:45] <gnarface> it could be a problem on their end. but cpanel breaks stuff too. if you had cpanel installed maybe that disables apt-get ? i dunno
[0:45] <osman> ill be in florida till next thursday but ill try to bring computer on the trip
[0:45] <osman> perhaps I can fix it on vacation
[0:45] <osman> but i think support will have to fix it
[0:45] <osman> but anyways I will keep you posted, I have to go pack
[0:45] <gnarface> well good luck, i dunno. at this point i can't tell if they messed something up or if you just ordered the wrong setup.
[0:46] <gnarface> have a good trip
[0:46] <osman> Thanks for your time lol it has been a long day Thanks again
[0:46] <osman> let me check my email
[0:46] <gnarface> at least what i can tell for sure is your ssh key worked
[0:46] <gnarface> so we got that part done
[0:47] <osman> http://vpslink.com/xen-vps/
[0:47] <osman> i bought link 1
[0:47] <osman> its possible i installed centos
[0:47] <osman> instead of debian
[0:48] <gnarface> centos instead of debian would explain why apt-get is not available
[0:48] <osman> i can't guarentee that I did it
[0:48] <osman> but its a good posibility
[0:48] <osman> ill update that in the ticket
[0:49] <gnarface> see if you can get them to drop it and give you a new one that is still link-1, xen, but *debian* and WITHOUT LAM
[0:49] <gnarface> *WITHOUT LAMP
[0:49] <osman> is lamp a firewall or the cpanel
[0:49] <gnarface> neither, but you don't want LAMP *or* CPANEL
[0:49] <gnarface> make sure neither are installed
[0:50] <osman> alright i wrote that
[0:50] <osman> i hav e to go back
[0:50] <osman> ill be back
[0:50] <gnarface> and you want to make sure there isn't a firewall either
[0:50] <osman> alright ill edit it
[0:50] * trisi_ (~trisi@63-140-81-116.nwc.dsl.dynamic.acsalaska.net) has joined #raspbian

[10:02] <feverDream> hello, is this good place to ask questions about rapsberry-pi running the rasbian os?
[10:03] <shiftplusone> here or #raspberrypi is fine.
[10:03] <feverDream> shiftplusone:great!
[10:05] <feverDream> I am observing frequent freezes with my raspberry pi. I am yet to figure out the root cause for it.
[10:05] <feverDream> I tried: swapping power supplies, checking the voltage and different memory cards :(
[10:06] <shiftplusone> what is the tp1-tp2 voltage you measure when it freezes?
[10:07] * teran_ (~teran@91.218.144.129) has joined #raspbian
[10:07] <feverDream> shiftplusone: I will make to note to check it, under normal conditions its at 4.85 V
[10:07] * teran (~teran@91.218.144.129) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[10:07] <ShorTie> what is pi doing when it freezes
[10:08] <feverDream> the powersupply I am using in the apple ipad one rated at 5.1v and 2.1 amps
[10:08] <feverDream> ShorTie: the leds?
[10:09] <shiftplusone> feverDream, Is it the US version that is cube-like?
[10:09] <ShorTie> no, more like programs runnin
[10:10] <feverDream> ShorTie: nothing, it just booted off a fresh raspbian image
[10:10] <feverDream> shiftplusone: the charger?
[10:10] <shiftplusone> yes
[10:10] <feverDream> eys
[10:10] <feverDream> yes
[10:10] <shiftplusone> that's a known bad supply
[10:11] <shiftplusone> One of these, yeah? http://images.mobilefun.co.uk/graphics/300pixelp/apple-lightning-mains-charger-for-ipad-air-ipad-mini-2-us-plug-p38391-300.jpg
[10:11] <feverDream> yes, I went by the rating. So it has issues?
[10:11] <shiftplusone> yeah
[10:11] <feverDream> it said 12 watts.
[10:12] <shiftplusone> the label does not give the full picture.
[10:12] <feverDream> I have been really unlucky with the pi in the power supply department :|
[10:12] <shiftplusone> you have no idea what the regulation is like or what the ripple is
[10:12] <ShorTie> can you try plugging it into your pc, just for yucks ??
[10:12] * Xiguanda (~drtxus@192.Red-2-138-14.dynamicIP.rima-tde.net) has joined #raspbian
[10:13] <feverDream> sure, I can do that. Should I be looking for something?
[10:14] <ShorTie> just to see if it doesn't freeze
[10:14] <feverDream> but the usb port doesn't give enough power no?
[10:14] <shiftplusone> not necessarily. Depends on the motherboard and PSU
[10:14] <ShorTie> it may or it may not, hard to tell without trying
[10:15] <feverDream> ok, let me try
[10:15] <shiftplusone> If it freezes, it doesn't tell you anything. If it doesn't freeze, then you know it's a power supply issue.
[10:15] * messenjah_ (~messenjah@aftr-37-201-225-46.unity-media.net) has joined #raspbian
[10:16] <feverDream> its seems to be working.
[10:17] <feverDream> I guess, I will leave it running for a while and see if it freezes
[10:17] <feverDream> btw, when the pi freezes does it leave something behind in the log files?
[10:18] <shiftplusone> not necessarily
[10:18] * messenjah (~messenjah@aftr-37-201-225-46.unity-media.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[10:18] <feverDream> Ok, the voltage between the pins is at ~ 4.77
[10:18] <shiftplusone> which is pretty bad
[10:19] <feverDream> its barely above the recommended right?
[10:19] <shiftplusone> yeah
[10:19] <shiftplusone> chances are, if you load up the network or plug in another usb device, you'll have issues.
[10:20] <feverDream> yup, I guess I will let it idle for a while and see what happens. I am hoping that its a power supply issue
[10:20] <shiftplusone> What was the other supply you tried?
[10:21] <feverDream> its a htc wall charger
[10:21] <feverDream> i think its rated at 5W
[10:21] <shiftplusone> did you try using it with a different cable? HTC supplies should be good, if they're genuine.
[10:23] <feverDream> the charger came with the phone so It has to be, as for the cable I will try swapping it with another one

[10:24] <feverDream> which one do you use?
[10:25] <shiftplusone> http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals
[10:25] <shiftplusone> I have a variety of supplies, Apple (non-US iPad version), HTC, and Samsung chargers and a lapdock.
[10:27] <feverDream> I see. Are there any other peripherals attached to the pi?
[10:27] <feverDream> whats the voltage you are seeing with them?
[10:27] <shiftplusone> Not right now, but they all work fine with things attached.
[10:28] <shiftplusone> Right now I only have a usb stick connected that the OS is running off.
[10:28] <shiftplusone> Haven't needed to measure the voltage though.
[10:28] <feverDream> yup, I guess its a bad sign when you start measuring it :)
[10:29] <feverDream> anyways, thanks for your help. I am hoping that my issue is related to my powersupply.
[10:29] <shiftplusone> sure sounds like it, good luck.
[10:29] <feverDream> only way to find out is to wait it out.
[10:29] <feverDream> have a nice day!
[10:30] <ShorTie> if it's a frsh install, try a apt-get update/upgrade to give it a little work out

[12:09] <ShorTie> ah, i don't think i'd worry about that if you get the official raspbian image, but thats just mho
