[13:27] <shiftplusone> It doesn't care about the time of day. However, the colours will appear different in light condition when compared to the normal camera.

[16:17] <littlebit> hi, I have the rasberry b+ and currently rasbian is running onto it quite nicely. And I recently wanted to gain access to my pi via ssh. I have enabled the sshd. As a router I have a router caled FritzBox from the company AVM here in Germany. I don't know if there are any german users in this channel but one of the many features of this router is that it does DNS in the local lan with the domain name "fritz.box". I have a xubuntu pc
[16:17] <littlebit> that I can reach with a ping with xubuntu.fritz.box but not with my rasbian. Why is that so?? Any ideas?
[16:22] <shiftplusone> compare the content of /etc/resolv.conf on both systems.
[16:23] <littlebit> @rasbian:
[16:23] <littlebit> domain fritz.box
[16:23] <littlebit> search fritz.box
[16:23] <haruspexx> did you install the pacages openssh-server
[16:24] <littlebit> nameserver 10.0.0.1
[16:24] <haruspexx> and openssh-client?
[16:24] <littlebit> @xubuntu:
[16:24] <littlebit> nameserver 127.0.1.1
[16:24] <littlebit> search fritz.box
[16:24] <littlebit> haruspexx: i did "apt-get install ssh", just as on my xbubuntu
[16:25] <shiftplusone> wait, hang on.... I've misinterpreted the problem.
[16:25] <shiftplusone> Are you saying you're unable to ssh from or to the pi?
[16:26] <haruspexx> typ in an pi terminal or command line ip ro show
[16:27] <littlebit> haruspexx: the result is this: 10.0.0.0/24 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 10.0.0.21
[16:28] <shiftplusone> hmm.... does ping raspberrypi.box or raspberrypi.fritz.box work?
[16:28] <littlebit> nope, ping: unknown host littlepi@fritz.box
[16:28] <shiftplusone> why @?

[17:03] <diederik> why does the xubuntu machine have 'nameserver 127.0.1.1'? That would indicate it has it's own nameserver running ...
[17:04] <vagrantc> it's probably running a local caching nameserver
[17:04] <vagrantc> maybe dnsmasq?
[17:05] <littlebit> vagrantc: I loked for that but there is no hint of dnsmasq installed
[17:07] <vagrantc> there are numerous other caching nameservers that do that ... or it could be a misconfiguration where it assumes you have one of them installed.

[22:19] <glen> hi. installed rasbian, do i need to install xbmc separately with noobs or can i run xbmc from rasbian too?
[22:19] <glen> i basically took noobs from http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ and installed only rasbian as didn't download the other os images
[22:20] <glen> and to install again with noobs, i understand i have to start again with blank sd card
[22:20] <lost_soul> glen, if you want xbmc it would be best to use one of the distros built for it, such as OpenElec or raspbmc
[22:20] * ClepCidre (~Cidre@2a02:a03f:2251:4e00:8905:cf2d:6870:1301) has joined #raspbian
[22:22] <lost_soul> you could try to just install the package to raspbian but I'm pretty sure you'ld get better performance with one of the distros that was built to optimize performance as a media center system
[22:22] <glen> and to install raspbmc i have to redo whole install again?
[22:23] <glen> yeah. i just installed mplayer to rasbian
[22:23] <glen> did startx and played some x264 file while still scp'ing movie in
[22:23] <lost_soul> didn't play very nicely, did it? :p
[22:23] <glen> and it was terrible
[22:23] <lost_soul> yea
[22:23] <glen> will it play better under raspbmc?
[22:23] <lost_soul> glen: if you have a second card I would suggest openelec... it plays 1080p beautifully
[22:24] <glen> afaik the terrible performance is due x11 lacking proper driver
[22:24] <lost_soul> haven't used raspbmc but have heard people say it is decent
[22:24] <glen> well. if you say i have to use blank card to use noobs with openelec. i can ditch rasbian, it's been installed only for ~30 minutes :)
[22:25] <glen> i have rasbmc on other (smaller) card
[22:25] <lost_soul> glen: you wouldn't be using noobs... just OE
[22:25] <lost_soul> hence asking if you have a spare card
[22:25] <lost_soul> the install is quite simplistic
[22:25] <glen> the other card is not spare as it's not mine
[22:25] <glen> but afaik installing with nooms is way simplier than whatever the other is :)
[22:26] <lost_soul> glen: well, can you dump whatever is on the card and use it temporarily... just so you can see if OE is what you want
[22:26] <glen> ok. i'll try openelec then
[22:26] <lost_soul> glen: are you running windows or linux
[22:26] <glen> but what's the openelec vs rasbbmc difference?
[22:26] <glen> i'm linux dude
[22:26] <lost_soul> nice
[22:27] <lost_soul> I know raspbmc overclocks by default... OE doesn't but runs fine without it
[22:27] <glen> ah. overclock, that i saw in the initial config tool too
[22:27] <glen> and previously (when having no actual device at hand) that overclock is pretty safe
[22:27] <lost_soul> if you think you would prefer raspbmc give that a try first if noobs is setup for it... if you aren't happy you can try OE
[22:27] <lost_soul> I can't give any first hand thoughts of it though as I have not used raspbmc
[22:28] <glen> i have raspbmc on one card (which isn't mine), i disliked that it didn't give me tty login :)
[22:28] <glen> but in the end i just care which one plays videos well
[22:28] <glen> can b+ play x264 actually?
[22:28] <lost_soul> OE boots right in to the interface...
[22:29] <lost_soul> even the b can play them
[22:29] <glen> so what's the problem with rasbian x11 that mplayer totally fails?
[22:29] <glen> no accelrator in x11?
[22:29] <glen> do xbmc/openelec use x11 or something else?
[22:30] <glen> (some wayland or sth like that?)
[22:30] <lost_soul> not sure why tbh.. I just know that using mplayer on it sucked and OE didn't
[22:31] <glen> actually. what does that noobs do? shuffle some partitions? unpack rootfs.tar and reboot?

[22:32] <glen> actually i need to blank the card as rootfs is taken whole card, and can't shrink ext4

[22:37] <lost_soul> dd if=/path/to/your/OpenELEC-Generic.x86_64-4.2.1-efi.img of=/dev/sdX
[22:37] <lost_soul> er, of course you'ld need to have the card inserted and adjust the command slightly
[22:38] <glen> going with noobs already, the download is just 100mb
[22:38] <glen> and as i understand it correctly, i can add all the variants from noobs in one install
