[0:35] <buu> unitiypunk: do you have a wlan0 device? Can it see networks? Can you authenticate with a network?
[0:35] <unitiypunk> yeah
[0:35] <unitiypunk> after rebooting it seems to be connected and working now.
[0:35] <unitiypunk> but dhcpcd still not running
[0:35] * _yoy_ (~YoY@ltl56-2-88-169-169-201.fbx.proxad.net) Quit (Quit: Leaving...)
[0:36] <unitiypunk> wifiradar is just another gui wifi app, like wpa_gui
[0:36] * Tachyon` is now known as Tach[Zzz]
[0:37] <unitiypunk> the device will always fall back to eth0 if no wifi is present right?
[0:37] * ir2ivps3 (~ir2ivps3@158.85.162.249-static.reverse.softlayer.com) Quit (K-Lined)
[0:38] <buu> it'll probably do both
[0:38] <buu> I'm not really familiar with the gui apps
[0:39] <unitiypunk> im not as familliar as id like to be with iwconfig and the commandline stuff
[0:39] <unitiypunk> i think im getting it though
[0:39] <buu> Its a bit complicated but the actual config is pretty simple
[0:39] <buu> The tools I mean
[0:39] <unitiypunk> the file in etc/wpasupplicant/wpasupplicant.conf holds all the known access points right?
[0:40] <buu> uh, I doubt it
[0:40] <unitiypunk> well, the ones you give it right?
[0:40] <buu> I just used network/interfaces to configure it
[0:40] <unitiypunk> used what?
[0:40] <buu> The file.. /etc/network/interfaces
[0:40] <unitiypunk> hmm
[0:40] <unitiypunk> oh yeah
[0:41] <unitiypunk> but you dont put a password or essid in there
[0:41] <unitiypunk> or do you?
[0:41] <buu> I do
[0:41] <buu> both
[0:41] <unitiypunk> wtf
[0:41] <buu> I mean, I just essentially hardcode it to connect to a specific essid/network/password combo
[0:41] <unitiypunk> my interfaces is like 6 lines.
[0:42] <buu> https://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse#WPA-PSK_and_WPA2-PSK
[0:43] <buu> That's basically what I did
[0:44] <unitiypunk> hmm
[0:44] <unitiypunk> i have half the info in wapa supplicant
[0:44] <unitiypunk> interesting
[0:44] <buu> http://linuxconfig.org/setup-wireless-interface-with-wpa-and-wpa2-on-ubuntu
[0:44] <unitiypunk> two files doing the same shit
[0:44] <buu> Yeah, I had trouble with wpa supplicant files
[0:44] <buu> Dunno.
[0:45] <unitiypunk> but so now i need it to connect to any available open wifi first

[4:53] <raspbert-> unitypunk: there is a file you can put commands into that will run after networking comes up
[4:54] <methuzla> post-up
[4:54] <unitypunk> location/path/tofile.plz
[4:54] <raspbert-> $ ls /etc/network/
[4:54] <raspbert-> if-down.d if-post-down.d if-pre-up.d if-up.d interfaces run
[4:54] <raspbert-> look in there
[4:54] <unitypunk> the file is in if-up.d
[4:54] <unitypunk> and executeble
[4:54] <raspbert-> make sure its +x efb
[4:54] <raspbert-> :D
[4:54] <unitypunk> efb?
[4:55] <raspbert-> i dont think i can explain that without getting kicked for obscenity
[4:55] <unitypunk> lol
[4:55] <unitypunk> no it is
[4:55] <raspbert-> maybe it's running
[4:56] <unitypunk> -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 154 May 18 21:30 boot.sh
[4:56] <raspbert-> try to touch a file like touch /tmp/myself in the script
[4:56] <raspbert-> and see if that file appears
[4:56] <unitypunk> ahh what?
[4:56] <raspbert-> if it does then your script is running
[4:56] <unitypunk> try to touch the file?
[4:56] <raspbert-> touch command makes an empty file
[4:56] <unitypunk> why would i do that.
[4:56] <raspbert-> to test that the script is running
[4:56] <raspbert-> that's what i would do if i werent sure it were being run
[4:57] <unitypunk> how would making a random empty file tell me f its running?
[4:57] <raspbert-> it's not random ...
[4:57] <unitypunk> what file is /tmp/myself?
[4:57] <raspbert-> it's a way of verifying if the commands in your script file are being executed
[4:57] <unitypunk> you mean a file inside the script?
[4:57] <unitypunk> lit does make a text file

[13:50] <Crazyivan532_> Im looking for good games to run on a raspi 2, i was checking on one called transcendence but was told that a port was abandoned for the linux platform. really just want a list of good looking games that i can play even if i need to compile from source code
[13:53] <TheLostAdmin> Please post your list when you get it. I'm sure other people would like to know too.
[13:53] <juandemas> Doesn't synaptic have a section or two for games?

[13:55] <shiftplusone> Emulation is where it's at though. Pi is great for retro gaming.
[13:56] * iamfrankenstein (~Thunderbi@h90192.upc-h.chello.nl) Quit (Quit: iamfrankenstein)
[13:56] <Crazyivan532_> i was kinda hoping that someone might have taken the old game ideas and wrote them nativly for raspi, that way emulation is not needed
[13:57] <Crazyivan532_> the only one so far that i have successfully got working myself is the updated version of OpenTTD
[13:58] <shiftplusone> there's a theme hospital engine
[13:58] <shiftplusone> corsixth, I think
[13:58] <shiftplusone> You'll need the original files from GOG or something, but it plays very well and without emulation.
[13:59] <Crazyivan532_> thats cool, maybe ill give that a look
[13:59] <shiftplusone> ScummVM games aren't emulated either, so there's that.
[13:59] <TheLostAdmin> I'm sure someone has recompiled moria and/or nethack to run natively on the Pi

[14:00] <Crazyivan532_> i tried to find the source code for some old acorn games i used to play, i know they work with risc os but i have raspbian on my machine so that i can do coding too
[14:00] <shiftplusone> oh yeah, all the standard linux games should be available
[14:00] <shiftplusone> unless they rely on opengl
[14:01] <Crazyivan532_> ones like lemmings, premier manager, zool and stuff
[14:02] <shiftplusone> I would be surprised if there isn't a lemmings clone... don't know about the others.
[14:02] * eXtremo (~eXtremo@unaffiliated/extremo) has joined #raspbian
[14:02] <TheLostAdmin> no opengl on the pi? I hadn't checked but I'm a bit surprised considering how otherwise widespread it is. I suppose that's due to the cell phone heritage of the cpu.
[14:03] <shiftplusone> not yet anyway
[14:03] <Crazyivan532_> what does it use instead?
[14:03] <leio> There is GLES2, and with open source drivers might get just enough for full GL too maybe
[14:04] <shiftplusone> opengl es, dispmanx, openvg and so on.
[14:04] <leio> Also there is zero integration with X11, you need some custom stuff to even light up the thing
[14:04] <leio> again, until VC4 mesa driver is in a far enough state, I suppose.

[14:21] <Crazyivan532_> now i need to get it from my pi lol
[14:21] <TheLostAdmin> ooooh. it even accepts my ancient C code. Well, the hello world program anyway.

[14:27] <TheLostAdmin> I didn't sign-in. I just typed and told it to run the program.

[14:28] <TheLostAdmin> so you can share without signing in.
[14:28] <Crazyivan532_> gonna have to give me a sec to grab the code from my pi
[14:30] <juandemas> I guys, I just installed minibian on the raspberry, all smooth, but when I try to ssh I have a connection refused. Any idea why is that?
[14:31] <TheLostAdmin> have you looked for error messages in /var/messages yet?
[14:31] <TheLostAdmin> I mean /var/log/messages.
[14:32] <Crazyivan532_> Ok so here is my code - http://ideone.com/BD8nFC
[14:32] <Crazyivan532_> and yes there are some errors nearer to the bottom lol, take it easy on me as im a noob at programming

[14:33] <TheLostAdmin> juandemas, yep, to you. And that might explain why SSH is failing. You have no network connectivity.
[14:33] <juandemas> It means I guess that my pc is trying to ssh over eth0 instead of wlan0
[14:34] <TheLostAdmin> juandemas, or that.

[14:36] <diederik> juandemas: 'route'
[14:36] <juandemas> and if it would have that the problem I should have seen a "no route to host", rather than a "refused connection"
[14:36] <MondaytoFriday> Does anybody have experience with the PCA9685?
[14:37] <TheLostAdmin> juandemas, If there are problems preventing ssh from working, there should be something in /var/log/messages. Otherwise it is some sort of misconfiguration.
[14:38] <Crazyivan532_> gonna need help there im a total noob
[14:38] <TheLostAdmin> juandemas, I'm not trying to be mean but without more details, I can't really help you further.

[14:39] <diederik> Crazyivan532_: "IndentationError: expected an indented block" and it points to the line that needs to be indented
[14:39] <juandemas> TheLostAdmin, of course, I'm sorry for not being more collaborative. What info can I give?
[14:39] <diederik> juandemas: that looks ok
[14:40] <TheLostAdmin> juandemas, it looks like diederik is helping. Probably better if we don't overlap effort.
[14:40] <diederik> not really, just checking the most common error
[14:41] <TheLostAdmin> Ah, well next obvious thing is running ifconfig and verifying that the IP address(es) are setup correctly and then trying a ping.
[14:41] <diederik> (usually ppl forget to change the gateway/default route)
[14:42] <TheLostAdmin> After that, make sure that the sshd server is running (assuming the ping response) or checking routing (if ping fails).
[14:42] <Crazyivan532_> ok but i did try changing the indent and taking it out all together which didnt seem to help
[14:43] <juandemas> ping works fine, no packet loss. Probably is the sshd, even though it usually starts at startup
[14:43] <MondaytoFriday> juandemas for encryption you need to look into FDE, I would recommend reloading raspbian, ssh should be working out of the box. If it doesn't, log in to your router, check the routing address and try to reconnect from there.
[14:43] <MondaytoFriday> default username is pi default password raspberry
[14:44] <MondaytoFriday> Second, if you need information on how your operating system works check out the debian documentation it's as thorough as it gets.
[14:45] <MondaytoFriday> Also, if you installed a reverse proxy, you need to listen on the reverse proxy port not port 22.
[14:47] <juandemas> MondaytoFriday: thanks for your reply. I tried FDE in the past couple of days, had quite some issues with initramfs that made me abandon the idea. About the ssh, the router is telling me the address, I also fixed it in cmdline, it just refuses the connection. No reverse proxy, didn't change the port.
[14:47] <MondaytoFriday> There's also a chance you set it up to not allow login if it's not coming from port 22 proper unless you made the exception, there is literally so many things that could be wrong from user error (we have all broken a lot of stuff) that sometimes it's best to start again.
[14:47] <MondaytoFriday> Have you ever been able to log into your pi?
[14:50] <diederik> Crazyivan532_: You forgot a " after the first 'print' statement and the second print statement should be on a new line
[14:50] <TheLostAdmin> juandemas, have you confirmed that sshd is in fact running on the Pi? If so, can you post your /etc/sshd_config file to pastebin or something? Also, what username are you using to connect (is it actually the username "pi")?

[15:05] <TheLostAdmin> juandemas, the -vvv should spit out a LOT more detail about the connection. It may not be the pi that is at issue. Is there a firewall somewhere in the mix?
[15:07] <juandemas> Nope, no firewall in between. I can try to ssh from another pc
[15:07] <juandemas> Is there a config file to edit to make sure the raspi sshd is starting up with the system?
[15:09] <juandemas> tried with another device, connection refused, ping alright.
[15:11] <TheLostAdmin> juandemas, if it is raspbian, it should start automatically. On the Pi, run the command "service ssh status" to see if it's running.
[15:11] <TheLostAdmin> juandemas, service ssh start will startup the sshd daemon (or do nothing if it's already running)
[15:12] <TheLostAdmin> juandemas, update-rc.d ssh enable will tell raspbian to start sshd when the system boots (if you are using the UNIX init system for startup).
