[6:47] <John-D> Has anyone used GPS Module NEO6MV2 with raspberry pi 2?

[7:55] <Pascal_1> hello
[8:00] <Pascal_1> I'm trying to install raspbian on a 8GO µsd card, for raspberry pi2, by following this documentation : https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/installation/. Whatever the way i use the raspberry doesnt start. I mean it boot, i can see some message during boot and then the raspberry restart in a loop.
[8:00] <Pascal_1> I tryied linux way windows way, verify sha1sum, verify µsd card (badblocks on linux). Everithing seems to be ok.
[8:00] <Pascal_1> Have you already met this problem ?
[8:02] * KushS (~kushagra@122.160.254.142) Quit (Read error: No route to host)

[8:04] <ShorTie> you did unzip it right ??
[8:04] <Pascal_1> yes sure !! ;-)
[8:04] <Pascal_1> i use the img file
[8:05] <ShorTie> ok, some folks have been known not too...
[8:05] <ShorTie> so, you using Linux or Windows to do this ??
[8:05] <Pascal_1> i try with the 2
[8:05] <Pascal_1> linux dd way and windows Win32DiskImager way
[8:05] <ShorTie> don't know what '2' is .. :/~
[8:06] <Pascal_1> the 2 is linux and windows
[8:06] <ShorTie> ok, still at <ShorTie> so, you using Linux or Windows to do this ??
[8:07] * rela_ (~x@p200300668404B70075578EA76CB5607B.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[8:07] <Pascal_1> hmmm i'm not clear ?
[8:07] <ShorTie> are you writing the image to the sdcard on a windows pc or a linux pc ??
[8:07] <Pascal_1> i made 2 tries one with linux and one with windows
[8:08] <Pascal_1> and the result is the same
[8:08] <ShorTie> hmmm, where did you get your image from then ??
[8:08] <Pascal_1> http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian_latest
[8:09] <ShorTie> k K
[8:09] <ShorTie> Win32DiskImager is like the easiest, but both should work
[8:10] <ShorTie> maybe it's a bad download ??
[8:10] <Pascal_1> i verify sha1sum and it's ok
[8:11] <Pascal_1> for the moment both does not works and i cant see why ...
[8:11] <ShorTie> doesn't work is not very discriptive
[8:12] <ShorTie> what lights come on ??
[8:12] <Pascal_1> i explain before what happen
[8:12] <Pascal_1> "I mean it boot, i can see some message during boot and then the raspberry restart in a loop."
[8:12] <ShorTie> how are you power the pi ??
[8:12] <ShorTie> oh, ok
[8:12] <Pascal_1> with usb adapter
[8:12] <ShorTie> you enabled the high current hack ??
[8:13] <ShorTie> that is a power problem
[8:13] <ShorTie> so back too <ShorTie> how are you power the pi ??
[8:13] <Pascal_1> ShorTie: sorry but my english is litle poor, what do you lean by "you enabled the high current hack ??"
[8:14] <ShorTie> if you don't know what i'm asking, then most likely not
[8:15] <Pascal_1> i just connect the adaptor usb on raspberry pi and on the 220v
[8:15] <ShorTie> it's a manule edit of config.txt to add max current setting any ways
[8:15] <Pascal_1> but how i do that ?
[8:16] <Pascal_1> i mount the boot partition to modify a file .
[8:16] <ShorTie> don't worry about that right now
[8:16] <Pascal_1> for the moment there is nothing connected on the raspberry
[8:16] <Pascal_1> hmm ok
[8:16] <ShorTie> you got power problems it sounds like
[8:17] <ShorTie> either bad 5vdc adapter and/or micro-usb cable
[8:18] <ShorTie> does your power adapter have a current rating on it ??
[8:18] <ShorTie> like xxxxma

[8:20] <Pascal_1> hmmm i didnt look at that .... 700 mA
[8:20] <Pascal_1> :-(
[8:20] <Pascal_1> i think this is the problem
[8:20] <ShorTie> that should be good enough to boot
[8:21] <ShorTie> is your micro-usb cable thin and flexable ??
[8:21] <ShorTie> does it have any writing on it ??

[8:24] <ShorTie> got a volt meter ??
[8:24] <ShorTie> that really doesn't tell much about it, like a meter does
[8:24] <ShorTie> still asking about the cable though .. :/~
[8:27] <xybre> Hmm, tmux doesn't seem to be able to display colors from the console. Even with `TERM=screen-256color tmux -2` and `set -g default-terminal "screen-256color"`.
[8:27] <xybre> Rather, it displays only 8 colors.
[8:34] <xybre> Ah, I think I got that part.
[8:36] <Pascal_1> YESSS it was the power adapter, with a new one it works !! thanks ShorTie

[11:24] <lordievader> Skyrider: Put the root fs there, /boot still needs to be on the sd card.
[11:24] <lordievader> Then tell your kernel to boot to that rootfs.

[11:38] <Skyrider> I'm aware that the boot itself needs to go from the SD-card, I'm that far at least.
[11:39] <Skyrider> Just the rest of the operation system on the external hdd.
[11:42] <ShorTie> anything else on the hdd right now ??
[11:42] <Skyrider> Its empty, 2 partitions. one ntfs and the other ext4.
[11:42] <ShorTie> then the easiest thing to do is just the raspbian image to it
[11:43] <ShorTie> and then change the cmdline.txt to point to sda2 instead of p2 of the sdcard

[12:34] <GustavoLapasta_> Hello gentlemen, I have a question on a video streaming system. Basically, my customer will never shut down gracefully the board. Is it enough if I mount the mass storage a s read-only to avoid data corruption due to hard poweroffs?
[12:34] <Pascal_1> i just connect the sd card on my computer and resize the partition
[12:35] <Skyrider> Its not a question, more of a "come again"?

[12:38] <Pascal_1> my english is little poor ;-)
[12:40] <Twanislas> GustavoLapasta_: Hi ! I do not think it would be a problem dependig on your storage. Lot of media players with sd cards do not even have a power button and works well

[12:41] <GustavoLapasta_> Twanislas, you get a lot of data corruption on the SD card if you dont shutdown the PI properly, right?
[12:42] <Twanislas> Honestly I don't know. But it does not seems that bad as the filesystem is journaled and so would rebuild at boot if there were errors. And as the SD is not mechanical, I'm not sure you would damage it
[12:42] <Twanislas> Physically speaking
[12:44] <GustavoLapasta_> Of course phisically there is little damage. But on my experience, after a few hard reboots you hav e acorrupted file system. I'd like to try and avoid this.

[13:41] <Skyrider> When using fdisk, I can use the 'd' command to select the partition, awesome.. which is 5 for me.
[13:41] <Skyrider> now, when running the n command, and using primary, it's asking for partition number again.. but 5 isn't in the list anymore.
