[8:52] <lordievader> Good morning.
[8:53] <lordievader> molgrum: I am now.
[8:54] <molgrum> lordievader: nice
[8:54] <molgrum> lordievader: let's assume that i have created /var/www/html on the Pi
[8:54] <molgrum> lordievader: can i put files there _before_ creating the deployment repo there?
[8:55] <molgrum> or any directory where nginx is configured to look at
[8:55] <lordievader> Yes. The order of creating a repo vs creating files doesn't matter.
[8:55] <molgrum> alrightey
[8:56] <molgrum> that's good cause i want to conf nginx and create some basic homepage before i install git server
[8:57] <lordievader> I'd create the git repo at /var/www/html first. Since then you can commit the steps you take.
[8:58] <molgrum> hmm ok
[8:58] <molgrum> now you made me uncertain :P
[8:58] <lordievader> Just a local repo. If you are not going to share code a remote repo is not necessary.
[8:59] <molgrum> lordievader: i'm going to commit code from my own computer to my Pi
[8:59] <molgrum> so i guess i need a remote repo?
[8:59] <lordievader> Your pi could be the remote ;)
[8:59] <molgrum> yeah
[9:00] <molgrum> lordievader: that was my plan, was just uncertain if i could create the folder + html files beforehand
[9:00] <molgrum> on the Pi

[9:30] <molgrum> so work tree is the actual place where the files end up and git dir just contains the configuration?
[9:31] <molgrum> and backups etc
[9:31] <lordievader> In the senario drawn by digitalocean there are three parts. Your workstation, the git server and the production server.
[9:31] <lordievader> Through those hooks when you push to master on the git server, the git server runs a checkout on the production server.
[9:32] <molgrum> yeah
[9:38] <molgrum> wow this is pretty "complicated" (for a newbie)

[10:36] <lordievader> There are allways lots of ways ;)
[10:36] <Skyrider> either way, using install kodi to see if it works.
[10:53] <molgrum> lordievader: should the git username be the same as the username on the machine? or can i just pick anything at all
[10:53] <lordievader> Git username?
[10:53] <molgrum> yeah
[10:53] <lordievader> What are you talking about?
[10:53] <molgrum> git config --global user.name "NewUser"
[10:54] <molgrum> on the Pi
[10:54] <lordievader> molgrum: Read the documentation ;) That is the name you want to commit as, usually your full name.
[10:54] <molgrum> aah
[10:54] <lordievader> It is not a username it is the name of the user.
[10:54] <molgrum> i see now, thx

[12:32] <molgrum> lordievader: if i do a folder in /var/www, won't nginx overwrite it if i get an update?
[12:33] <molgrum> or it keeps its html in /usr/share?
[12:33] <molgrum> i'm guessing the latter
[12:33] <lordievader> Nginx has nothing to do in /var/www, it only has to serve files from there.
[12:34] <molgrum> i asked in the nginx channel, they said it would be overwritten if i do it in /usr/share/nginx/www/html

[14:37] <diederik> I don't have much experience with nginx, but I did get it to work with owncloud with the config I posted
[14:38] <molgrum> okay
[14:41] <diederik> it was more meant as a way to not store it in /var/www/ then a perfect example on how to do things. Storing a file in /etc/nginx/conf.d/ works really well (and I use sth similar in apache)
[14:44] <molgrum> diederik: do i need another nginc.conf you mean?
[14:45] <molgrum> with another useer?
[14:45] <molgrum> -e
[14:45] <molgrum> :)
[14:46] <diederik> no, that's the beauty of it, you can (iirc) leave the nginx.conf as is and put your own configuration files in the /etc/nginx/conf.d/ directory

[14:51] <Skyrider> meh, kodi installation appears to work
[14:51] <Skyrider> but when I run an ISO file.. black screen, instantly.
[14:51] <diederik> when you store your files/website in /var/www you don't have to configure anything. It's easy, but I prefer to store my own things at a different place (/opt/web/) and then you do need to configure some things.
[14:51] <Skyrider> nothing appears to react.. though shell still works.
[14:52] <molgrum> diederik: /opt/web can be set in sites-enabled :)
[14:52] <molgrum> i think

[18:37] <molgrum> i got a free DNS, but only for port 80
[18:37] <lordievader> DNS has nothing to do with this.

[23:32] <zars> no sucsess any further
[23:32] <azlo2> hey diedrik is that a solid image? this stuff is going production
[23:32] <diederik> it's not an image, but a network installer
[23:33] <plugwash> this stuff is going production <-- then you NEED to figure out WTF is wrong
[23:33] <azlo2> plug why am i gonna figure out why an image doesnt work?
[23:33] <azlo2> i am just not gonna use it
[23:34] <plugwash> because that image works for everyone else which means there is something seriously wrong and you need to find out what that something is.
[23:34] <diederik> because it works for thousands if not millions of ppl ...
[23:34] <plugwash> otherwise you are very likely to be bitten by it again later
[23:34] <azlo2> i just told you the image doesnt say anything about what model board it is for. may be not compatible with my b+

[23:35] <plugwash> I suspect you may be dealing with counterfiet SD cards that lie about their capacity, put a small ammount of data on them and they look fine but try to fill them up and you get what looks like massive corruption
[23:36] <plugwash> because they simply don't have enough flash to actually store the data
[23:36] <azlo2> wow
[23:36] <azlo2> that's pretty extreme
[23:36] <azlo2> since i have 50 of them and got them from patriot and also have used them to full cap on freebsd
