[3:06] <diederik> you're not the first one who got confused. I'll make it more clear in the next update
[3:11] <ToTaLkRieG> nobody that can tell wether a slow mouse pointer in raspbian is normal or not?
[3:13] <ToTaLkRieG> 308 people here...
[3:15] <ToTaLkRieG> :/
[3:15] <diederik> I have heard or read about it before, but I have no idea whether it's normal as I don't use a mouse with my Pi/raspbian
[3:16] <ToTaLkRieG> hmmk thnx
[3:17] <methuzla> sorry. i've never even attached a monitor to any of my pis.
[3:17] <ToTaLkRieG> seems strange to me, even a 20 year old pentium 333 has normal mouse speed
[3:18] <plugwash> what kind of mouse are you using?
[3:18] <ToTaLkRieG> usb mouse
[3:18] * plugwash hasn't noticed any difference on mouse speed between the pi and other systems.
[3:18] <ToTaLkRieG> aha
[3:19] <ToTaLkRieG> thnx, now I know I gotta find out what causes it
[3:19] * plugwash would suggest trying a different mouse, preferablly the most basic wired one you can find and would also suggest checking the voltage
[3:20] <ToTaLkRieG> voltage is fine
[3:20] <ToTaLkRieG> wired mouse

[20:24] <diederik> and normally those error messages also point to the file where the issue occurred
[20:25] <diederik> In this case it's very likely the use of _TIME_ and _DATE_ macros. Comment those lines out and the issue likely goes away
[20:25] <diederik> (or you could change the compiler settings not to warn/error on those things)

[20:27] <crossfire0mega> is it common to have a bunch of errors?
[20:27] <diederik> likely at the top of the Makefile you see lines like 'EXTRA_CFLAGS += -Wxxx'
[20:28] <diederik> It's not uncommon. But a well maintained driver likely fixes that in time

[22:59] <thunderbirdtr> hello, I plug tl-wn821n wifi adapter I installed to one package to make it work but when I tried to connect network, I got this output from dmesg>>> http://ur1.ca/nu2kk any idea for fix thank you
[23:08] <diederik> what's the USB ID of your device and what package did you install?
[23:14] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, for package
[23:15] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0cf3:1002 Atheros Communications, Inc. TP-Link TL-WN821N
[23:15] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, # apt-get install firmware-linux-free
[23:16] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, and normal wpa2 configuration for my network and when I do that It's restart the device and give me really huge dmesg results and never worked
[23:16] <diederik> the output you posted earlier suggest the driver crashed
[23:16] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, yeah looks like so
[23:19] <diederik> are you using wheezy or jessie?

[23:23] <diederik> http://www.linux-hardware-guide.com/2013-04-21-tp-link-tl-wn822n-wlan-wifi-usb-300mbps
[23:24] <diederik> ^^ that's a general page and suggest that you have version 1.
[23:24] <diederik> http://www.tp-link.com/en/faq-46.html <- instructions to check which version you have
[23:25] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, on behind of adapter It's wrote V2
[23:25] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, but according the here yes V1
[23:26] <thunderbirdtr> so I need ar9170 driver for make it work ? not "carl9170"
[23:26] <diederik> I wouldn't be surprised if that discrepency is the cause for your crashes
[23:26] <thunderbirdtr> when I check the link to "linuxwireless.org" I saw this on the list
[23:26] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, TP-LINK TL-WN821N v2 0x0cf3 0x1002 500mA
[23:27] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, same ID and said "v2" that's kinda confusing
[23:27] <diederik> indeed. And that's a problem.
[23:27] <diederik> Based on the USB ID the driver gets selected and it could very well be that it's selecting the wrong driver
[23:28] * XSoul (~XRule@46.249.204.13) Quit (Ping timeout: 255 seconds)
[23:28] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, when I plug into my laptop(fedora based) system It indicate V2 and matches with ar9170
[23:28] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, on rs-pi I matches with carl9170 I think
[23:28] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, that's could be problem as you said so I have to change that to ar9170 could be solve the problem I think ?
[23:29] <thunderbirdtr> d
[23:29] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, ohh I forget the head line
[23:29] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, ar9170usb was a GPL driver for the Atheros 802.11n USB chipset (AR9170). It is replaced by carl9170.
[23:29] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, whops

[23:32] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, already installed
[23:33] <diederik> the linuxwireless page reports 2 versions of the firmware
[23:33] <diederik> either ar9170.fw or ar9170-1.fw AND ar9170-2.fw
[23:34] <diederik> does it work on your laptop?
[23:34] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, yes

[23:34] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, carl9170 3-1.2:1.0 wlp0s26u1u2: renamed from wlan0
[23:36] <diederik> Check whether ar9170-2.fw is present on your laptop. If it is and it's missing on raspbian, I'd download ar9170-2.fw and place that next to ar9170-1.fw

[23:39] <diederik> the -2 is that on your laptop or on the Pi?
[23:39] <thunderbirdtr> PC
[23:39] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, It's not exist on pi
[23:39] <thunderbirdtr> no result from dmesg on "rs-pi"
[23:40] <diederik> try downloading the -2.fw file and place it next to the -1.fw file
[23:40] <thunderbirdtr> diederik,
[23:40] <thunderbirdtr> sure

[23:44] <diederik> that should happen automatically when you plug the device in

[23:46] <thunderbirdtr> diederik, just one line I showed you

[23:47] <diederik> that's a message from udev/systemd. That's not what I'm after
