[5:49] <cwong_on_irc> so i have a 32G microSD card and it has 3 partitions (/boot, /, /home). i want to write the new raspbian image (.img) to /boot and /, i dont want to delete my /home. whats the best option?
[5:56] <shiftplusone> delete all the files in the other partitions then use rsync -avHAX to copy the new ones from the image?
[5:57] <cwong_on_irc> shiftplusone: ok. that will sync all the block devices files as well right?

[11:55] <kjhfgf> Yo dudes! .. I'm a bit concerned. I've got a fresh install of jessie-lite running on my pi. I ssh in last night, change the password, do an update and upgrade over night. I come back in the morning and I'm getting the HOST IDENIFICATION HAS CHANGED message. Any thoughts as to why this would happen? Cheers dudes.

[12:05] <ries> kjhfgf: did the IP of the pi change?
[12:05] <kjhfgf> nope, same IP
[12:06] <ries> when that happens to me (not with the pi) I usually have two systems with the same IP when I am fooling around
[12:06] <ries> I never seen them just changed
[12:07] <ries> a upgarde shouldn't change the host id I would assume
[12:07] <kjhfgf> I wouldn't have thought so .. maybe someone got in?
[12:12] <ries> Assuming you don't have the pi connected to the internet directly it's not a big chance that's happening
[12:13] <ries> why don't you check if the ID was change on your pi?
[12:13] <ries> Then check your computer you are trying login from when that was changed and draw conclusions?

[14:05] <medarion> hi
[14:06] <medarion> can anyone give me a hint whether there is information available which hardware revisions of the raspberry pi are supported by the latest releases of raspbian?
[14:09] <medarion> I have a raspberry with revision 003 which I was able to boot with older revisions of raspbian. The latest image from raspberry.org just stays dark...
[14:09] <gordonDrogon> are you sure it's not just something as simple as a bad SD card write?

[16:59] <stratum> full raspbian is major bloatware, so I use the latter

[19:12] <thurstylark> And1: no, that should be good. The nfs server should be running now.
[19:12] <And1> thurstylark: It is. Until I reboot.
[19:13] <thurstylark> ok so systemctl enable rpcbind and systemctl enable <whatever the nfs service is called>

[19:14] <thurstylark> Oh, right. sysv compat. That's why the is-enabled didn't work.
[19:14] <thurstylark> Yeah, see what happens
[19:14] <thurstylark> idk why debian doesn't use the systemd service for that instead, but whatever :P

[19:28] <Superkikim> I'm struggling with an RPI3 with HiFiBerry DAC+Pro. When the hifiberry overlay is added to the config, the integrated wireless lan does not hook to the AP anymore.

[19:29] <Superkikim> If I put the same SD in a RPI3 without the DAC, it works fine.

[19:33] <And1> thurstylark: Sure. http://lpaste.net/155022 I think editing /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server would work, but that’s an awful workaround for this … seems to be a debian bug, though, for almost a year now.

[20:53] <Superkikim> Damn, I'm loosing my nevers with this damn random wifi issue :(
[20:53] <Superkikim> Could be a power problem, but how the hell shall I troubleshoot this.
[20:54] <danzoid24> what is the wifi problem you are having?
[20:54] <Superkikim> RPI3 with Hifiberry DAC+Pro
[20:54] <Superkikim> When the hifiberry overlay is loaded (and therefore, the DAC is powered), the wifi does not hook to the AP anymore.
[20:54] <Superkikim> Headless wifi RPI3 here.
[20:55] <danzoid24> what are the specs of your power supply and what makes you think it is a power issue?
[20:55] <danzoid24> ah
[20:55] <Superkikim> It's supposed to be a 2.5A 5.1V PSU.
[20:55] <danzoid24> well that seems sufficient
[20:55] <Superkikim> I also tried hooking it up to a 20Ah powerbank. It worked better than with the 2.5A PSU.
[20:55] <Superkikim> the powerbank delivers 2.4 per port, and 5 or 6A total.
[20:56] <Superkikim> no. 2.1 per port, 4.2 total
[20:56] <danzoid24> so is this an intermittent thing?
[20:56] <Superkikim> If I put the same microSD in a RPI3 without the dac, it works fine.
[20:56] <Superkikim> So I'm trying to find out in logs what could be the problem.
[20:56] <Superkikim> Yes seems to be intermittent.
[20:57] <Superkikim> I'm rebooting without the DAC now to be able to login and read logs.
[20:57] <danzoid24> when the issue is happening, can you run a dmesg | tail and see the adapter?
[20:59] <danzoid24> Superkikim, maybe you can help me with something as well
[20:59] <Superkikim> well seems that right now I have another problem. I extended FS via raspi-config and it doesn't boot anymore. I'll have to mount the SD on my linux VM to check it.

[21:32] <vsdsdf> .
[21:32] <Superkikim> I have it on LAN. Then again, LAN is ok but not wlan

[21:34] <Superkikim> (oh, can one paste code in this client ? )
[21:35] <bobbySmurda> anyone have experience setting up openvpn on their pi?
[21:35] <Superkikim> interestingly, iwlist scan gives wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down

[21:36] <Superkikim> no key. Open network.
[21:37] <danzoid24> ok
[21:37] <Superkikim> ifup wlan0: dhcp fails (obviously as it does not connect to the AP)
[21:37] <danzoid24> bobbySmurda, never set that up before

[21:40] <danzoid24> Superkikim, see the thing is, I have only worked with usb wifi devices
[21:41] <danzoid24> you told me earlier that this is integrated in the rpi3?
[21:41] <danzoid24> I only have the rpi2
[21:41] <Superkikim> yes it is.
[21:41] <danzoid24> is it still considered a usb device?
[21:42] <danzoid24> I have embedded usb devices on arm based systems before for ease of use
[21:42] <Superkikim> Let me check
[21:43] <Superkikim> Right now it hanged :)
[21:43] <danzoid24> a lsusb should tell you
[21:43] <Superkikim> no it's ok
[21:43] <danzoid24> it will also give you the chipset
[21:43] <Superkikim> lsusb only gives the ethernet adapter
[21:44] <danzoid24> dude you are missing somehting in this new image
[21:44] <danzoid24> maybe
[21:44] <danzoid24> im just trying to brainstorm with you here

[21:45] <danzoid24> does the rpi3 have a jtag header?
[21:45] <Superkikim> what is a jtag header ?
[21:45] <Superkikim> This is my 1st ever Pi
[21:46] <danzoid24> a debugging tool
[21:46] <danzoid24> im new to pi but develop ARM
[21:46] <Superkikim> Then no. I dno't. and no display .... Where I currently am, there are no monitor, no TV, nothing .... ^^ Makes things .... interesting.
[21:47] <danzoid24> If I had a conflicting driver problem on an arm cortex ax, I would be using a jtag adapter to see what the kernel had to say when booting
[21:47] <danzoid24> yea you cant see that with SSH
[21:47] <Superkikim> any chance to get a log of this ?
[21:47] <Superkikim> debug log ?
[21:47] <danzoid24> there should be a boot log

[21:51] <nicolas17> in fact you're offered to expand it on first boot
[21:52] <danzoid24> can you expand it after first boot while in the FS
[21:52] <Superkikim> on Wheezy idk. In jessie, raspi-config
[21:52] <Superkikim> I'm in dmesg
[21:52] <danzoid24> booooom

[21:53] <danzoid24> nicolas17, thanks
[21:54] <danzoid24> got it
[21:54] <Superkikim> I disabled the hifiberry dac and I'm rebooting. I will then compare both dmesg.
[21:54] <danzoid24> sweet
[21:54] <danzoid24> i think that is your conflict
[21:54] <Superkikim> this is driving me mad ^^
[21:54] <Superkikim> yes, but with device tree, i find it hard to troubleshoot
[21:55] <Superkikim> I'm no code freak :)
[21:55] <Superkikim> The guy at hifiberry told me he succesfully loaded integrated wifi with the DAC on an RPI3 and got music out of it ....
[21:56] <Superkikim> So it shouldn't be related to the hifiberry. Unless mine is defect :( !!!
[21:56] <Superkikim> if so, I can spend hours looking for a solution ;-)
[21:56] <Superkikim> days, weeks....
[21:56] <Superkikim> :D
[21:56] <danzoid24> yea
[21:56] <danzoid24> we have all been there

[21:57] <danzoid24> took me 2 weeks
[21:57] <Superkikim> oh ! interestingly, even with the DAC off, the wlan didn't got an ip address now.
[21:57] <Superkikim> ouch !
[21:57] <danzoid24> thats good!
[21:57] <Superkikim> that's a lot of work.
