[13:22] <mia_> what is the simplest way to serve a static website on raspbian
[13:22] <mia_> I use nodejs and I know that route but I thought maybe there is a simpler way
[13:24] <TheLostAdmin> mia_, I would think lighthttpd would probably be the easiest. Although apache is pretty simple to set-up (mind you I've been using apache since the '90s so I might be biased).
[13:25] <fred1807> mia_: well, search for "bash web server" you will see a dead minimalisc example using httpsocket. There is also a "awk" web server example, a few lines of code.... Nginx is a complete web server with low memory footprint.
[13:25] <_nils_> fred1807, "sudo dmesg" and look for your device, maybe "sudo blkid -c" works also

[19:03] <M3mphiZ> I have a raspberry pi running raspbian wheezy, the latest version i could find: 2015-05-05. After changing /etc/network/interfaces and adding a wpa_supplicant.conf I got an error on boot saying dhcpcd is not going to run because dhcp is configured somewhere. as I never had to use dhcpcd i uninstalled it. unfortunately now on boot the system is not doing any dhcp or wpa_supplicant stuff. its like its skipping the whole interfaces file. any way
[19:03] <M3mphiZ> to fix this without dhcpcd? i dont know when dhcpcd made it into raspbian but it used to work before that...
[19:06] <hecatae> M3mphiZ, have you got a usb ttl cable to get into serial console?

[19:10] <shiftplusone> looks okay
[19:10] <M3mphiZ> its a hidden wifi and it used to work even without wpa_supplicant. for some reason i didnt so i commented it out
[19:11] <shiftplusone> anything interesting in syslog?
[19:11] <M3mphiZ> well thats the point. all messages about wpa_supplicant and dhcp stopped some time ago so its not executing it on boot anymore
[19:12] <shiftplusone> all? I'd expect to see some output from the networking service and see it either launching or failing to launch a dhcp client and so on
[19:13] <M3mphiZ> ok well this is funny. i guess the pi knows im on irc. because now after reboot at least the eth0 got an ip :D
[19:14] <M3mphiZ> now the only thing missing is wpa_supplicant on boot
[19:14] <M3mphiZ> i can see dhclient trying to get and ip on wlan0 but there are no wpa_supplicant messages
[19:15] * shantorn (~shantorn@216-161-88-17.ptld.qwest.net) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[19:15] <shiftplusone> iirc, it should be started by one of the pre-ifup.d scripts. Any output from ifup in syslog?
[19:15] <M3mphiZ> shiftplusone: do i have to enable the service/daemon somehow? i know that dhcpcd has a hook to call wpa_supplicant
[19:16] <M3mphiZ> yes but those are also from this morning, so they stopped as well
[19:16] <M3mphiZ> if got a few saying: ifplugd(wlan0)[1658]: client: /sbin/ifup: interface wlan0 already configured
[19:17] * shiftplusone shrugs
[19:17] <shiftplusone> without full logs and being able to poke around the system, not sure I can help
[19:17] <M3mphiZ> i might be able to get a tmux session we can both connect to
[19:20] <shiftplusone> Sounds like effort and it's friday night >.>
[19:20] <M3mphiZ> perfect timing :P
[19:22] * wiiguy (~fake@unaffiliated/wiiguy) has joined #raspbian
[19:22] <shiftplusone> I've found ifplugd to be generally awful and I am not sure how it's meant to interact with /etc/network/interfaces. I guess in theory, it should just call ifup and ifdown on interfaces as they're connected or disconnected. syslog should show where along the line things fail. /etc/init.d/networking should parse /etc/network/interfaces, call ifup, ifup should run the relevant scripts in /etc/network/*, which would run wpa_supplicant.
[19:25] * Haruno (~lucas@197.226.185.178) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[19:25] <M3mphiZ> hmm looks like those are all in place i can see wpa_supplicant in ifup.d etc
[19:26] <M3mphiZ> what i dont get is, why does dhcpcd stop itself when it finds a dhcp entry in interfaces? i mean isnt that exactly its job to provide the dhcp client if there is such entry?
[19:27] <shiftplusone> dhcpcd is an entire network manager and also takes the role of ifplugd
[19:27] <shiftplusone> it provides some other more advanced features too
[19:27] <M3mphiZ> oh i see
[19:28] <M3mphiZ> ok well i guess for my little wifi-on-boot i dont need it
[19:28] <shiftplusone> So it expectes to see 'manual' in /etc/network/interfaces, otherwise the standard debian stuff should be in charge of the network
[19:29] <M3mphiZ> hmm i thgouth about going manual on the wifi connection but since wpa_supplicant is not even starting i guess that doesnt help
[19:29] <M3mphiZ> the last msg i have from wpa_supplicant is the following: wpa_supplicant[1760]: wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-TERMINATING - signal 15 received
[19:29] <M3mphiZ> also from this morning
[19:29] <shiftplusone> anything from ifplugd near that line
[19:30] <shiftplusone> it may be the case that ifplugd decides that it should be disconnected and kills it
[19:31] <M3mphiZ> actually yes. there is something. lemme pastebin that part
[19:34] <M3mphiZ> shiftplusone: http://pastebin.com/TRz3mmCB
[19:35] <M3mphiZ> these are the last messages from wpa supplicant
[19:36] <shiftplusone> So yeah.... what I said is happening. pi ifplugd(wlan0)[1658]: Link beat lost.
[19:36] <shiftplusone> ifplugd(wlan0)[1658]: Executing '/etc/ifplugd/ifplugd.action wlan0 down'.
[19:36] <shiftplusone> I don't know why that's happening
[19:37] <shiftplusone> wlan0: deauthenticating from b0:48:7a:ea:7b:60 by local choice (Reason: 3=DEAUTH_LEAVING)
[19:37] <shiftplusone> that doesn't look good either and may be the reason you get "Link beat lost"
[19:37] <M3mphiZ> yeah well its one question why that is happening but more importantly why is it not being executed on boot anymore?
[19:38] <shiftplusone> those messages aren't from your last boot?
[19:38] <M3mphiZ> no as i said theyre from this morning. 3am. thats i think when i uninstalled dhcpcd
[19:38] <shiftplusone> okay
