[4:26] <vocx> I wonder if anybody has this issue: I have 3 machines, two RPi3 and 1 laptop. With the laptop I can ssh to both Pis using their hostnames, like Pi1 and Pi2. However, both Pis cannot see the other Pi, only the laptop. It's like they are invisible to each other. I had this problem for a while. I don't know what I did, but eventually both Pis were able to see each other. But now something happened and again both Pis don't see each other again.

[4:32] <vocx> I set up static IP addresses for both Pis in the router, not on the Pis, as some guides suggest. They both have their static IPs as confirmed from ifconfig. It has avahi and samba installed. It seems one solution is to just reboot the Pis and hope for the best, until it is found on the network. But I wonder if I did something on the Pi to allow it to broadcast its name to the router, and from there to the entire network.

[16:02] <goldkiD> Hey there. Is there anybody who can help me with the first time setup (headless) via SSH?
[16:02] <redrabbit> hi
[16:03] <redrabbit> i'm searching for something to send power on signal to the pi0/pi3 every two hours

[16:07] <vocx> goldkiD, as far as I know, if you buy certain SD cards with a Pi, they already come with SSH set up, so you can just ssh pi@raspberry and it should work immediately.
[16:07] <goldkiD> I already tried it but the connection will get refused, vocx. I downloaded the latest raspbian
[16:07] <goldkiD> is there anyway to enable SSH via accessing the SD Card?
[16:08] <goldkiD> I don’t have a keyboard since I use a laptop instead of a tower pc^^

[16:09] <vocx> goldkiD, did you try with the hostname raspberry or with the IP address? Sometimes the hostname is not detected immediately, but maybe it works with the IP ssh pi@192.168.1.1
[16:10] <goldkiD> I used the IP Adress
[16:10] <goldkiD> This is what I get: ssh: connect to host 192.168.0.109 port 22: Connection refused
[16:10] <goldkiD> It should be the default port, shouldn’t it?
[16:13] * shootbird (~quassel@beepbeep.serverpit.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 245 seconds)
[16:15] <goldkiD> I found a few tutorials (for the old releases) where boot_enable_ssh.rc is mentioned but I can’t find any file like that
[16:16] <vocx> goldkiD, yes, that should not be the problem. What that usually means is inside the headless Pi, the ssh server is not running. How to make it run? Well, I actually am not sure. Maybe you need to take the SD card out, put it in your laptop, add some files to the SD card so that it explicitly says to start the ssh daemon on boot, and then place back the SD card into the Pi and boot. I think that's the way to do it, but honestly I haven't done it myself
[16:16] <vocx> because I have a monitor at hand. I setup my ssh in the Pi, and then I can use headless as you wish.
[16:16] <goldkiD> A monitor is not the problem, it’s right infront of me. but I don’t have a keyboard :D
[16:19] <goldkiD> Is it possible to use a bluetooth keyboard right from the first start?
[16:23] * shootbird (~quassel@beepbeep.serverpit.com) has joined #raspbian
[16:24] <goldkiD> I found this on the website: „For headless setup, SSH can be enabled by placing a file named 'ssh', without any extension, onto the boot partition of the SD card.“ Does it mean just a txtfile?

[18:21] <JEidson> mete: I forgot to mention that I tried that too. but I will give it and go and let you know. Thanks
[18:21] <goldkiD> maybe a bad installation. That’s why I wanna try it again in a few minutes
[18:22] <mete> s00ff: depends on your line and on your storage
[18:22] <s00ff> Storage would be a NAS connected through SMB or FTP. Line is 50/50
[18:22] <mete> goldkiD: also hit rpi-update after you flashed it
[18:23] <mete> s00ff: ftp is bad, a FTP fs is not working well... SMB is consuming much cpu, you can give it a try with rtorrent
[18:23] <goldkiD> (Y) I’ll try, thanks
[18:24] <mete> but could be that the PI is too slow, never tested it tought... I would let the client run directly on the nas
[18:24] <s00ff> My NAS is too stupid for a torrent client unfortunately
[18:25] <s00ff> That's why I'm looking for a low powered torrentbox option
[18:26] <mete> you can try rtorrent or transmission as client s00ff
[18:26] <mete> deluge will not work on the PI as it has very limited resources
[18:26] <s00ff> Haven't bought the rpi yet.. Asking before buying

[18:28] <mete> don't know
[18:28] <mete> you can ask google, I think there are many threads about it
[18:29] <s00ff> I've tried that. Most threads settle with rpi, but I don't think they're intenting to have that many torrents

[19:46] <goldkiD> but it will take a lot of time
[19:48] <mete> GPIO is always time intensive if you're building something at your own :D
[19:48] <haral__> i have a rgb light bulb and i want to setup a scene with RGB values and trigger this scene with a motion sensor. Any sugestions?
[19:51] <haral__> if u are common with c# i wld sugest win 10 iot / very nice driver lib for gpio (i2c, spi, gpio etc.) and easy to use. xaml for gui also easy to use but no cam support as i know
[19:52] <vocx> goldkiD, it seems pretty standard. Just remember to isolate the GPIO of the PI from the actual electric load, like sprinklers, pumps, motors, etc. Basically you need some sort of optocoupler or transistor, to send the signals from the GPIO to the power transistor, that will actually carry the load current. So Pi -> GPIO -> optocoupler -> power transistor -> load
[19:54] <vocx> haral__, by motion sensor you mean a camera? I don't think you need a camera if there is a motion detector that works with infrared. Then you get basically a logical signal, that is on (something blocking the infrared) or off (nothing present).

[19:56] <goldkiD> Well, maybe its standard but it will be hard for me :D
[19:57] <haral__> vocx, im using a razberry transmitter so my pi -> zwave controller. I have a pir sensor (motion detector) and a rgb light bulb wich are both zwave devices and cna be configured by zway (reachable over webserver installed on pi) but im new on this and cant find out how to setup rgb scenes
[19:57] <vocx> haral__, oh, then I don't know more than you already know.
[19:59] <haral__> anybody knows razberry experts? timeframes i should join this channel?
[20:00] <mete> as it is not related to raspbian, you can also try in #raspberry haral__
[20:00] <mete> #raspberrypi *sorry
